Content and prose review
I will comment on anything I notice, but not all of my comments will be strictly related to the GA criteria, so not everything needs to be actioned. Feel free to push back if you think I am asking too much, and please tell me when I am wrong.
- Lead seems a bit short and does not address all of the main points (like the scandals uncovered)
- Infobox: dates of birth and death are unreferenced and not contained in the body
- Infobox says he died in a cemetery
- Infobox says he married Orlando, body does not
- Biography: there is a tiny bit of Early life here, the rest is more or less "Journalistic career", which would be a better section heading. (Although you could split of films and TV work)
- "He started working at an early age, as a waiter and technician at Radio Nacional" did he work as a waiter at Radio Nacional?
- What kind of things did he do for Siete Días and El Porteño?
- "The newspaper outed a request for bribes" perhaps "made public" is better than "outed", which is usually applied to people, not to information.
- Link / explain the "Swift company".
- Was Lanata in any way involved in exposing Swiftgate and Yamagate?
- "She was sentenced to prison in 2012 because of this." because of the report or because she had the money?
- Is there anything worth saying about the two documentaries he made? When did he film the documentaries? I am not a huge fan of the "also" and I am not fully convinced they are presented at the right place in the article.
- The whole section has a bit of a WP:PROSELINE feel. We have "In year X, he did Y. Then, he started Z". but there is very little connection or motivation. He sometimes starts a TV program or a newspaper, and then you tell us what that newspaper did, but never whether Lanata was even still working for the newspaper. We later have a huge amount of prizes won, so he must have done something right, but it doesn't really show in this section.
- What is the Clarin Group, and what is "Periodismo para todos"? (some of the titles could benefit from being translated to English)
- "The program returned in 2020, and had its last season in 2023" which one, Periodismo or Lanata sin Filtro?
- Books: drop the "also"
- what is El nuevo periodismo about?
- Might be good to have separate bibliography and filmography sections to collect the information in table format.
- "His first successful book" commercially or critically?
- Is "ADN. El mapa genético de los defectos argentinos" also a book about history or just in the style of a book about history?
- Do you need to combine fiction and non fiction here? It seems a bit chaotic.
More later! —Kusma (talk) 09:19, 30 August 2025 (UTC)
- Personal life: the "raised by his aunts" information should be with "his grandfather was a footballer" in my view, no need to separate these
- Is Orlando a spouse or a long-term partner?
- what was Bergoglio at the time (we all know he was pope later)?
- Health: "His medic Julio Bruetman explained them in the biography Lanata" (a) this makes it sound as if Bruetman wrote the biography, but it seems to be by Luis Majul (b) "medic" is a fairly informal term here; "physician" would be preferred.
- "never left the habit despite medic orders" you can stop smoking or cease smoking, but not "leave the habit" in English.
- "He also consumed 8 grams of cocaine during a decade" per day or per decade?
- "The funeral was held at the House of Culture of Buenos Aires, on 1 and 2 January." that is long for a funeral; was it a wake or lying in state or something like that?
- Awards: what do you mean by "Work: Personal"? I would expect he was given the award for some public journalism, not for something that is too personal to say what it is.
Overall I am not very thrilled by the article. This is a great journalist who has worked on exciting topics and helped uncover some major scandals, but the article is more a prose-ified CV than an attempt to tell his story. —Kusma (talk) 13:02, 30 August 2025 (UTC)
Source spotchecks
Numbering from Special:PermanentLink/1308585926.
- 1: original link is dead. Nothing about Pagina 12.

- 2: says that Augustin is the grandfather, but does not say that Jorge was born in Mar del Plata.

- 3a, b:

- 4a, b:
but why not tell us that Yomagate involves the sister-in-law of the President? - 4c: the 2012 date is not the sentencing, but the Supreme Court upholding it

- 5: The book section is just paraphrasing this source. Content seems ok, but very much from just
{{one source}}. - 6a:

- 6c: yes, but what did the mediation say?
- 8: nothing here about the hospitals, surgeries or dates.

Too much content not supported by sources, ending spot check here. —Kusma (talk) 13:39, 30 August 2025 (UTC)
General comments and GA criteria
- Prose issues see above.
- Lead is too short and incomplete.
- Sourced used are reliable newspapers, but only seem to scratch the surface. As book length biographies of Lanata exist, it would be better to consider them.
- Various statements not supported by the source.
- The article is quite superficial and does not really discuss any of the major achievements, let alone in the depth they deserve.
- There is also very little critical commentary about his work; we have a few prizes, but nothing that really explains why he got them.
Overall this is a fail. I think the article needs some serious work to become Good, more than I am willing to wait for while putting on hold. —Kusma (talk) 13:44, 30 August 2025 (UTC)
