Talk:Yohanan ben Zakkai

Yavneh

The story that Yochanan Ben Zakkai was smuggled out of Jerusalem during the siege and predicted that Vespasian would become emperor requires considerable credulousness or a better explanation, because the siege of Jerusalem began in May, 70 CE but in July of 69 Vespasian had already been proclaimed emperor. See here for example - http://www.livius.org/ja-jn/jewish_wars/chrono66.html [[Mewnews (talk) 23:55, 16 May 2009 (UTC)]] Whether or not the claim mentioned above about Vespasian is accurate I do not know, however the year the temple was destroyed is an old dispute if it was destroyed in 68, 69, or 70 of the common era[reply]
