An editor has requested that The Tyranny of Distance: How Distance Shaped Australia's History be moved to The Tyranny of Distance, which may be of interest to this WikiProject. You are invited to participate in the move discussion. Qwerty123M (talk) 01:59, 30 December 2025 (UTC)
- result was merge Wakelamp d[@-@]b (talk) 01:32, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
- Hi @Wakelamp,
- I thought that was a move rather than merge, my reasoning for thinking this way is because there was no article at the page The Tyranny of Distance (book) prior to this discussion and officially that's how a move is characterised. At least I think that's what a move rather than merge means per Help:Merging and moving pages. Maybe I'm just confused because I did not enter the proposed title correctly but the requested move is done now so I don't need to change it.
- Happy to be corrected. Qwerty123M (talk) 09:12, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
- I didn't mean for it to come across as a correction ; I was just going through the current articles for deletion for this project for something else, and wondering how people know what has occoured
- It is very confusing through. Looking through Abe books (it is unreliable but has titles) the short title ("The Tyranny of Distance" is mainly on the cover on the early editions from Sun Publishing , whilst the longer title is mainly on "The Tyranny of Distance: How Distance Shaped Australia's History". The [| current edition] is called "The Tyranny of distance" Wakelamp d[@-@]b (talk) 09:41, 7 January 2026 (UTC)

Nomination by some very serious Wikipedians with no obvious interest in Australian history. It's not a great article, but useful. Doug butler (talk) 23:16, 6 January 2026 (UTC)
- Have replied, but I would suggest wikipedia is the wrong place as this is genealogy. Have you thought of publishing an article in a Jewish history journal? Wakelamp d[@-@]b (talk) 09:01, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
How do you appeal a closed AfD -University of Sydney Revues
AfD discussion Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/University of Sydney Revues which made decision to merge with University of Sydney.
My knowledge of the the University of Sydney Revues is based on Clive James Unreliable Memoirs and mentions in the press, but it seems like Australia's equivalent of Footlights
So how do you appeal an AfD Do I contact the person who closed it? or all the people involved with the AfD? or AfD talk? And which notability is appropriate for theatre troops - WP:GNG?
I have added this to the article - "Famous members have included journalist and broadcaster Clive James, author and prominent feminist Germaine Greer, film maker Bruce Beresford, actor and director John Bell , actress Rose Byrne, actor and director John Gaden, Melbourne International Arts festival and Sydney Festival director Leo Schofield, author Madeline St John (first Australian nominated for the Booker Prize,) director Richard Wherrett, theatre promoter and barrister Ken Horler, and art critic Robert Hughes Many of these were also involved with the {[Sydney Push]]. " Wakelamp d[@-@]b (talk) 01:29, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
- You can take it to WP:DRV if you really want, but if the sources in the article are representative of the coverage then it's obviously not notable. 5225C (talk • contributions) 07:41, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
- I agree with @5225C that you should not take further action on this proposal. A source needs to be independent and secondary to comply with our policy on reliable sourcing. Honi Soit cannot be considered fully independent as that is edited by University of Sydney students, let alone the fact that it doesn't reach a wide audience outside of the academic space. There is no rule I am aware of that states you cannot comment on an articles for deletion proposal on an article you have created, it's good to comment on proposals you have an interest in because that helps identify any consensus from different opinions. Qwerty123M (talk) 08:31, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
- @5225C @Qwerty123M Thank you for pointing to WP:DRV and your advice. I didn't actually create the article, and have no WP:COI (did not attend U. Sydney and my acting ability is definitely not my strong suit) , but found it going throughthrough Project Australia's article for deletions. I wont appeal, However the decision of the AfD was merge with University of Sydney, but I think merge with Sydney_University_Dramatic_Society may be a better fit as it has all the names I mentioned .
Do I contact the person who closed it, or is it [[WP:DRV]?? Wakelamp d[@-@]b (talk) 09:22, 7 January 2026 (UTC)- Hmmm, I'm not sure (WP:NOTBUREAU). It's a non-admin closure of a discussion with a consensus to merge to a particular article. I suppose you could ask the closer to re-open the discussion to allow you to raise the alternative destination. A second option would be to start a talk page section explaining what you've said here and tag all the AfD participants (since you're not challenging the outcome, rather the destination). 5225C (talk • contributions) 00:41, 8 January 2026 (UTC)
- WP:DRV is only appropriate if you believe the closer interpreted the consensus incorrectly in that discussion (see WP:DRVPURPOSE). As I don't think that's your position here, I agree with 5225C: I would start a discussion on the article's talk page, and ping the participants in the deletion discussion. – Michael Aurel (talk) 01:33, 8 January 2026 (UTC)

Proposed move
Hi there WikiProject Australia,
I am notifying you of a proposed merge at 2026 Australia gun buyback program because we need additional responses for a proper consensus that everyone can agree on. Qwerty123M (talk) 22:30, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
New article: Proto-Australian language
G'day everyone. In 2024, the first ever book-length grammar describing the hypothesised Proto-Australian language was published. This is a major milestone in Australian historical linguistics. I have bought myself a copy. I have created an article and I will be doing my best to go through it and add appropriate content and references. I would welcome linguistically-informed contributions. Cheers. Ikuzaf (talk) 01:18, 8 January 2026 (UTC)
Darren Power
Can someone update this article Darren Power with details on what happened after 2024? There seems to be no mention of the mayor's successive tenure. Did he contest the elections, or anything else? ~2026-16266-4 (talk) 18:07, 8 January 2026 (UTC)
2026 Adelaide Writers Week boycott
I have suggested a split to a new article on Talk:Adelaide Writers' Week. I would be happy to create the article myself, but right now buried deep in also trying to finish off another article in the last few days that I have a book out of the library that I cannot renew... Does anyone wish to opine on the split, and/or have a crack at starting a new article themselves? Laterthanyouthink (talk) 07:48, 9 January 2026 (UTC)
