User:Oscar .
I started editing Wikipedia in July 2005. My first Wikipedia edit was actually plagiarized from another website, and it stayed that way for a long time. Since then, I’ve come a long way: I’ve served the community in nearly every role imaginable, from writing and translating articles to organizing events, helping small wikis grow, giving talks, facilitating governance discussions, and coordinating the Wikimedia chapter in Venezuela, that alone made me a target of government persecution.
Most recently, I worked as a contractor for the Wikimedia Foundation –as User:Oscar . (WMF)– and as Wikipedian in Residence for the Latino organization Equis.
This residence is now being carried forward by Maremoto (Dec 2025), more info here.

Venezuela
Due to my volunteer work as an editor on Wikipedia and coordinator of Wikimedia Venezuela, I have faced online harassment since 2019. This escalated in 2022 into an investigation described by various human rights organizations as judicial persecution aimed at curtailing my freedom and that of other users.
These incidents highlight the presence of organized groups, not only in Venezuela, that seek to control the narrative and reality for their citizens. However, platforms like Wikipedia, which adhere to principles such as the neutral point of view and the use of reliable sources, help prevent the imposition of a single truth.
Disclaimer
From July 2024 to June 2025, I worked for or provide services to Equis as a Wikipedian in Residence. You can follow my contributions via this dashboard.
