Hi, I'm Kurzov.[note 1] Due to my current employment, I haven't had the time to work on Wikipedia projects in a while. My most recent efforts were to make a Wikidata project for the Touhou Project danmaku shoot-em-up series, a WikiProject that I have admittedly abandoned.
My interests are numerous, including the aforementioned SHMUPs, 4X and grand strategy games, roads and highways (particularly in how they're signed), weather forecasting, and emergency warning networks (mostly the Emergency Alert System).
Careers, and not-careers
My day job involves selling phones and internet service. I won't delve further into it for privacy reasons. What I do outside of that day job is pretty varied, though.
Hurricane forecasting
One of my interests, as described above, is in weather forecasting. This interest manifests itself in the form of my membership within the Global Weather and EAS Society, or GWES, a fairly large organization by and for EAS and weather enthusiasts. The group originally took the form of a semi-casual Facebook group but soon migrated to Discord, and eventually grew into a legit organization that became one of NOAA's Weather-Ready Nation ambassadors in 2024.
My particular role in GWES is within the forecasting division, where I and a handful of other folks write unofficial products on active weather events. I specialize in tropical products - issuing summary and outlook products for active tropical disturbances large and small. Admittedly, I'm no NHC forecaster, but I try my best with the tools I have.
Minecraft
I've played Minecraft for many years, but I began to get a little frustrated with Microsoft's handling of the game at around the turn of the current decade. As a result, I've mostly stuck to playing the game with mods (I spin up private modded servers for my friend groups on occasion), or with older versions of the game on older multiplayer servers. One of those servers is Old School Minecraft (OSMC), a server running on Minecraft Beta 1.7. I'm involved with New Nameful, one of the server's larger "towns" (it's actually closer to a city-state, with democratic elections and sub-districts). That server is also home to the largest ever build - currently still in progress - in my history of playing the game: a massive server-spanning "road" network that connects many of the active and dormant towns on the server.
Livestreaming and content creation
I have had a history of making videos and livestreams dating back to 2012. In fact, my Kurzov nickname was initially created as a pseudonym for my YouTube channel in early 2017, at a time when I was uploading semi-regularly and had a small but loyal audience (which was admittedly being inflated by some... I'll call it "YouTube stuff"[note 2] that my immature past self had waded into). I've been on and off with my content creation over the years, and with my current job being what it is, I don't have much time for livestreaming these days.
