Talk:Slaying of the Spaniards

The only massacre?

What about, say, the Örlygsstaðabardagi where most of the fatalities were various acts of revenge after the battle. All the best 157.157.101.21 (talk) 20:00, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Biased language

A more neutral language should be used. The description appears to be a bit biased. --94.134.200.183 (talk) 23:01, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It seems from our article

that Captain Martín de Villafranca gets killed twice. This seems doubly unfair to the fellow. The second death is more graphic, so I'm inclined to keep that one but will not do anything until anyone who wishes to comment has a chance to do so.Carptrash (talk) 20:07, 22 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced

This article cites no sources, and I have tagged it as such. --Thnidu (talk) 17:35, 30 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Explicitly contradictory information

Per the previous version, captain De Villafranca was killed twice, on two separate dates. I've removed the version that seems less likely, based on the few sources that I've been able to find. Also, why is the article's primary source an alleged sorceror? 108.26.218.227 (talk) 14:51, 8 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

one of the last massacres? or the actual last?

It say "one of the last documented massacres in Icelandic history". What were the later ones? "One of" implies more. Also how can it be one of the last? There can only be one last. There is no "One of the winners of the 2025 World Series". It was the last or it wasn't. "One of" implies to the reader that there were other.

I expect this is weasel wording in case there where later documented massacres, but I don't think so... I mean the Icelanders must have given up massacring people at some point? I hope. Anyway it should be "the last" period and this I have done, willing to be corrected. Herostratus (talk) 02:17, 5 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Whoever wrote that was probably not comfortable with being definitive about what counts as a massacre and may not have been sure about succeeding events. The only instance after the Slaying of the Spaniards that I can think of counting as a massacre would be the Turkish Abductions, perputrated by African pirates. Before these events there were a few battles and feud-related killings in the 13th century. Iceland has always been a sleepy place. Stefán Örvar Sigmundsson (talk) 17:13, 5 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
