Source to confirm dwarfism tendency
I think we should find a credible source to confirm that these hybrids are prone to dwarfism. FelineLover (talk) 03:00, 23 June 2017 (UTC)
Genetic possibility of hybrid
FelineLover (talk) 02:22, 23 June 2017 (UTC) Maybe we should try to get someone who has a strong understanding of genetics to explain and use sources to prove how two animals from separate subfamilies can successfully produce offspring.
Update: This article has a chart that might help people understand that this is an unlikely hybrid, but I've had no luck in finding out how it is genetically possible for this hybrid to exist. http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/gnxp/2013/05/pumapard-leopard-puma-hybrids/#.WUyFN4WcFjp FelineLover (talk) 03:11, 23 June 2017 (UTC)
- I feel like this could be a classic Victorian con, a Cougar and a Leopard crossbreed seems dubious in feasibility. A reddit reply I read not too long ago (great source I know) challenged the possibility of this and questioned if it was an Ocelot crossbreed, which seems much more likely than a Leopard to me.

- Either way I feel like this topic needs some sort of scientific study about the validity of the crossbreed... (that or one has been done, but I can't find it in my quick and limited research) TripodBipod (talk) 02:33, 10 August 2025 (UTC)
- At very least "pumapard" doesn't seem to really warrant the "authenticated hybrid" status that this article claims. It's more like borderline cryptozoology. The reddit thread comments point some things that would be interesting to add, if that's not even more "original research" than its claimed authenticity. It's said the spots are more fit with those of ocelots (which are really confirmed to hybridize with pumas, as noted in the puma hybrids section, with actual scientific reference), and how this hybridization would also explain the "dwarfism" more naturally, more null-hypothesis-ishly. Even if the alleged pumapard were somewhat larger than pumas, as leopards are, arguably it would still be more phylogenetically plausible it was a puma-ocelot hybrid with some kind of liger-like hybrid vigor. 200.150.252.93 (talk) 23:28, 15 September 2025 (UTC)
