Please do not add duplicate categories

When you're copying over from books in American books to English-language books, you did not check if an article was in any of its subcategories. Now Category:English-language books is full of articles that are in both the vaguer parent category that you added and the subcat that was already there, e.g. The 10 Big Lies About America, Aliens Adored (fixed that one), every one I have clicked there is due to a recent edit from you. Categories again

It doesn't seem very helpful to replace categories like British science fiction novels and American mystery novels with such a broad category as English-language novels, it makes the categories less useful for navigation because the latter category will be so enormous. You could just add the smaller categories as sub-categories of the larger one instead. Richard75 (talk) 23:22, 25 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Richard75: So this is interesting. I had been proceeding on the model of Category:English-language television shows, which contains the subcat Category:American English-language television shows - I had intended to proceed a bit and see what the reaction was before proceeding further. (That hatnote at the head of the category wasn't there when I looked before...which is evidently longer ago than I realized.) And if there was no comment then to begin winnowing down. But then there's Category:English-language films by country, which does exactly the opposite.

Removing nationality parameter

This edit does nothing other than to remove an empty and unused nationality parameter from the person infobox for Jack Kershaw. While the use of the field is deprecated, why does it need to be removed on a systematic basis by an individual pressing enter thousands upon thousands of times? Can you point me to the consensus for the systematic removal of this parameter? How does this not conflict with WP:AWBRULES, which states that "Do not make insignificant or inconsequential edits. An edit that has no noticeable effect on the rendered page is generally considered an insignificant edit.", as this edit changes nothing in how the page is rendered to any reader? @Alansohn: Quite apart from the fact that I am not the first editor to make such edits - I have seen at least two others do so in recent weeks, though the exact evidence for it escapes me at the moment - this is not a cosmetic edit to anyone who is viewing the article on mobile. Any article in Category:Pages using infobox person with deprecated parameters renders a clearly visible message to a mobile viewer indicating that the parameter is deprecated - I notice it every time I look at something using the mobile tool. @WikiOriginal-9: The article Amy Barbour-James, which is currently in the category Category:Pages using infobox person with deprecated parameters, contains the "nationality" parameter in the infobox...the parameter is currently blank. Even so, when I looked at the article earlier today on mobile (I am currently on my desktop), it showed a preview warning message at the bottom of the infobox. I experimented with removing the parameter in preview, and that appears to resolve the issue.

MOS:INFONAT says: Citizenship or nationality can be noted if dual, naturalized, or an exception to the typical case. Pierce). These are easy fixes that I truly don't mind doing, but I wanted to let you know, in case there was some automated fix. I think there have been about a dozen in the last day or so. No worries, as always I maintain that a few easily-spotted and -fixed errors are no price at all to pay, for the amount of cleanup work you're doing!

It's not a script, more of a clumsy hack, based on the fact that an exploded infobox usually leaves the word "infobox" visible on the page, along with infobox fields. So I search for the word "infobox", then control-F search the results for the pipe character. Like this. There's a good example there right now actually, at ManaTapu. Erhard Rom is an American scenic designer, best known for his extensive work in opera. Rom’s designs have been featured by leading opera companies worldwide, including San Francisco Opera, the Royal Swedish Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Seattle Opera, Washington National Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Wexford Festival Opera, Glimmerglass Festival, and many others Life and Career Born in Seattle, Washington, Erhard became enamored with opera at the age of eight, after seeing his first live performance. At home, he constructed a makeshift stage from boxes and crafted paper figures to recreate what he had seen. Over time, his productions grew more elaborate, culminating in a custom-built scale model of the Seattle Opera House with dimmable stage lighting and working battens for moving scenery. By 13, Erhard was staging live performances using painted, costumed plaster figures operated by sticks and accompanied by a recording of the opera. Rom went on to study music and design in college, earning an undergraduate degree in music from the University of Washington and an M.F.A. in scenic design from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. After graduating, he worked extensively with regional theatre and opera companies, devoting most of his career to opera, including 14 world premieres. Rom has collaborated with many of the world’s leading directors, creating hundreds of settings for professional opera and theater productions across the US and internationally.

Style His designs are characterized by large, abstract architectural forms combined with the use of technology—particularly digital projection—to create dynamic, fluid stage environments. Rom’s work is celebrated for its poetic power and emotional depth, crafting visually compelling spaces that amplify the dramatic narrative. A notable example is the Atlanta Opera’s production of Wagner’s Ring of the Nibelung, in which Rom employed a massive LED wall in conjunction with scrims and string curtains. Awards and Honors Rom was named a finalist for Designer of the Year at the International Opera Awards in London in both 2025 and 2015. In 2014, he designed the European premiere of Kevin Puts’s opera Silent Night, a production that received two honors at the 2015 Irish Times Theatre Awards, including Best Opera Production of 2014 and the Audience Choice Award. The research is focused on learning about how top Wikipedians stay motivated and how they reach such high levels of productivity on the platform (they have likely developed personal tools, habits, and attitudes that enable/augment their productivity). Again, these insights will help Wikimedia design new tools/features for editors.

The documentary portion of the project (if you would like to be in it) would essentially be a series of short portraits of top Wikipedians.

Yep, totally understood! The first time you added the tag, there was a discrepancy where a few of the dates were YMD format (which I fixed). I had initially assumed the template was to denote that there was an issue regarding the date formatting, but I understand now it's just a way to categorize articles that use MDY format rather than there being any unresolved issue. Nationality > citizenship

First she was born on 5 March 1945 as Ingrid Jansen. When she became champion in 1968 it was under the name Tuk because she used at that time the name of her husband. Seriously though, if I had a nickel for every time I've made that EXACT error (not just a generic AWB/JWB regex error, but hitting a plainlist or UBL and only removing half of it), I could retire and edit full time! My trick is to basically skip anything that is complicate and do those with a second pass where I am a bit more careful... Ignoring ones that have {{ or <ref> tags. Enjoy your omelet!
