Selection from Awakening from a Dream
  • ... that the murder of Wang Lianying was followed by a blitz of newspaper coverage, books, stage performances, a film, and songs (example pictured)?
  • Source: Everywhere in the article, but probably the best overview is
He, Qiliang (2018). Newspapers and the Journalistic Public in Republican China: 1917 as a Significant Year for Journalism. New York, London: Routledge. pp. 224–245. ISBN 978-0-429-79669-2.

  • QPQ done, nomination happened day after article creation, claim in hook supported by sources, the work in the hook is copyright free, and the fact that it exists and is accessible is interesting, although the work itself is maybe of variable interest (it's pretty staticy and unpleasant to listen to, hard to make out the song). Article itself is good: no copyvio, long enough, content is well supported by sources, no issues with copyright with media. Hook is interesting. One minor note is that I'm not sure if the audio file is "pictured", but that can easily be adjusted. Maybe "given"? Nice work! seefooddiet (talk) 03:03, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Contradiction

'Although Lianying's death was linked to her occupation by contemporary commentators, few considered it to have contributed to her murder.'

Ahem, her death was directly caused by her murder. I don't see how her death could have been caused by her occupation without her murder having been caused by her occupation. 62.73.72.3 (talk) 00:48, 22 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I will be conducting this review as part of the May 2025 GA review drive. I will leave my comments within a few days. Kimikel (talk) 14:05, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Crisco 1492: No worries, whenever you have the time. Realistically, there's very little to fix here anyway; I apologize for the short review but I really could not find much to nitpick. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns regarding my suggestions below; thank you for your great work. Kimikel (talk) 23:55, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi @Kimikel:, I've gone through your comments. Aside from the elections, which as I said I believe could support its own article, everything should be done. No worries about any delays... it's a longer article, with some more niche topics. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 01:53, 6 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Chris, thank you for the quick response and for your quality work in writing the article. Everything has been addressed and I am ready to close this review. Thanks for making this an easy one and congratulations! Kimikel (talk) 22:27, 6 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Well-written

  • "Elections" of courtesans, > I feel it would benefit the article to explain what these elections were in the body.
    • I am not sure we can add too much without derailing the article. He Qiliang goes into detail about the 1917 election, and I do think the concept of a flower list could have its own article at some point.  — Chris Woodrich (talk) 01:52, 6 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • (equivalent to ¥58,000 in 2019) Can this and all the other yen conversions be updated to 2024 or 2025?

  5. 11: Verified; though per my comment above I would include more of the info here in the body to help explain what the "elections" were

Illustrated

  • All images and audio files are public domain and properly tagged. Their inclusion benefits the article.

Broad

  • Yan met Wu and a third man, Fang Rishan (方日珊), at a teahouse. > do we know how Yan knew/was connected with Fang prior to the murder?
  • with plans to eliminate the remainder by 1925. What were the results of these plans? were they ever carrried out?
    • Reviewing Herschatter, it was announced in April 1924 that the remaining licensed brothels in the International Settlement would be closed on December 31, 1924, at the latest. Licensed brothels continued to operate in the French Concession into the 1930s at least. Added — Chris Woodrich (talk) 01:52, 6 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
