Request to add link to my article
Hi, I've been working on editing the Gothic double article for the past few months. It is still classified as a stub so I'm looking to divert some more traffic to the article in order for its classification to go up. I have a section on how the motif is used in Black Swan, and was wondering if I could please add a sentence or two in this article mentioning the use of the motif, and with a hyperlink to my own article? Please let me know. Thank you so much! Snowdrop Fairy (talk) 07:42, 22 May 2022 (UTC)
How did you find and upload the poster without copyright issues?
I'm a newer editor looking to create a Wikipedia page for a film and I was wondering where you found the poster and how it was uploaded without copyright issues. Please explain. Factfanatic1 (talk) 22:02, 6 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Factfanatic1: Posters for most films, excepting old ones (pre-1920s) or those which were not renewed, will be copyrighted. So for Wikipedia, they would have to uploaded here locally instead of Commons, and under a claim of fair use. This involves using templates for a non-free use rationale (we have one for film posters) and a licensing tag. This might sound complicated, but you'd just fill in information and we have plenty of existing examples you could look at. You can find posters using Google Images; this specific one came from IMDB. For more help, you could always reach out to the Teahouse, which is especially newbie-friendly. Happy editing. Opencooper (talk) 00:40, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
Hello, all.
A lot like Rklawton before me, I arrived at this page looking for Black swan, I suggest adding a direct link up the top for the bird species of the same name, as this was the first page that came up.
Thanks! ValiantEar564 (talk) 10:07, 2 June 2024 (UTC)
Clarification on film setting
Hello, I am making this request on behalf of the New York City Ballet.
The article currently implies that Black Swan is set at the New York City Ballet. This is inaccurate. The film is set at a fictional ballet company in New York City and is not affiliated with or based on the New York City Ballet.
This has been confirmed by multiple sources, including the below article from the Los Angeles Times and Searchlight Picture’s synopsis of the film, which states that the film is set in “a New York City ballet company”, not the New York City Ballet.
“The setting is a fictional ballet company based at Lincoln Center.” (Los Angeles Times, December 7, 2010) https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2010-dec-07-la-et-black-swan-ballet-20101207-story.html
“BLACK SWAN follows the story of Nina (Portman), a ballerina in a New York City ballet company whose life, like all those in her profession, is completely consumed with dance.” https://www.searchlightpictures.com/blackswan
I respectfully suggest amending sentences in the lead section, the “Plot” section, and the “Cast” section of the article to clarify that the film is set at a fictional ballet company, not the New York City Ballet.
Suggested lead section sentence:
The plot revolves around a production of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake by the company of New York City Ballet a New York City based ballet company.
Suggested “Plot” section sentence:
Nina Sayers, a young dancer with the New York City Ballet a ballet company in New York City, lives with her overprotective mother, Erica, a former ballerina.
Suggested “Cast” section edit:
· Natalie Portman as Nina Sayers / White Swan / Odette, a ballerina for the NYC ballet who strives for perfection while struggling with stress and various traumatic issues
Please let me know if further information or clarification would be helpful. Ashleymcdonnell (talk) 16:38, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
