Sophia Smith (soccer player, born 2000) → Sophia Smith (soccer, born 2000) – per WP:NCSP Joeykai (talk) 04:59, 11 December 2020 (UTC)

- Comments
- Per WP:NCSP (section Association football (soccer) 2A), shouldn't this article be titled Sophia Smith (American soccer player) and Sophia Smith (footballer, born 1978) be changed to Sophia Smith (Greek footballer) ?
- Sophia Smith should be updated to a disambiguation page (WP:DISAMBIG) that links to all three Sophia Smith articles.
- "Born 2000" is not needed in this article title nor the Greek player's article if you read WP:NCSP (section Association Football (soccer) 2A). Hmlarson (talk) 18:35, 13 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Hmlarson:, "Sophia Smith (American soccer)" would be an incomplete disambiguation since Sophia Smith (footballer, born 1978) is also American. Joeykai (talk) 18:39, 13 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Joeykai: - But you're using "footballer" because she's Greek per WP:NCSP (section Association football (soccer) 2A), right? Hmlarson (talk) 18:41, 13 December 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, she is both American and Greek. Joeykai (talk) 18:50, 13 December 2020 (UTC)
- I'd suggest we complete the job in its entirety. Per cited guidelines, it should be Sophia Smith (American soccer player) and Sophia Smith (Greek footballer). Sophia Smith should be moved to Sophia Smith (educator) and Sophia Smith be updated to a disambiguation page that links to all of these articles. Hmlarson (talk) 18:54, 13 December 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, she is both American and Greek. Joeykai (talk) 18:50, 13 December 2020 (UTC)

- Support. Given both are American and both play soccer (which is also sometimes used outside the US to refer to football), the debate above is unnecessary. Sophia Smith (soccer, born 2000) and Sophia Smith (footballer, born 1978) are the best possible disambiguators. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:21, 16 December 2020 (UTC)

– Per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC and long-term stats for all three articles that clearly demonstrate Sophia Smith (soccer, born 2000) is WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Hmlarson (talk) 00:46, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
- Support - I think the US international has enough long-term significance to promote this article to base name. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 15:35, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
- Support per above - think she's the primary topic and will remain so. SportingFlyer T·C 15:37, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
- Support I'm not sure I have the right to vote in the English Wikipedia, but I understand that the present name is to distinguish her from another famous woman. Anyway, I have no problem with the suggested name, and I'm about to translate a part of this article to the Hebrew Wikipedia. Thank you, Ronavni (talk) 17:13, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
- Of course you have the right! Welcome. SportingFlyer T·C 18:01, 25 July 2023 (UTC)

- Oppose - not a PRIMARYTOPIC in my view. The test needs to be MUCH higher. GiantSnowman 19:56, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
- Weak oppose per long-term significance no PRIMARY.--Ortizesp (talk) 20:22, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
- Strong oppose. She may well end up being the most notable soccer player named Sophia Smith, but Sophia Smith (Smith College), the founder of Smith College, has arguably much stronger notability from a historical point of view. Not appropriate to change the 23-year-old soccer player to primary. Cielquiparle (talk) 08:47, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose - As Cielquiparle says, the founder of Smith College has a longer-standing record of notability. We aren't just distinguishing her from the other footballer with the same name. In the coming month, we know that people will be looking for the footballer, and they can find her with one more click. In 2025, they might or might not be looking for her. In 2027, they will be looking for her, and will find her with one more click. In 2031, they will be able to find her with one more click. Robert McClenon (talk) 21:46, 27 July 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose - At the moment, in my opinion, it is not PRIMARYTOPIC. It may change upon time. Ampimd (talk) 15:21, 1 August 2023 (UTC)
- Support – since all three articles have existed (February 2021), the 2000 soccer player has had at least 77.5% of the views every month. Since June 2022, it's been over 90.5% in each month. I think this is enough to support a primary topic. Skarmory (talk • contribs) 21:53, 1 August 2023 (UTC)
- Support – think the historical page view stats (even before the ongoing World Cup) shows that she's now the primary topic and her prominence is only likely to grow. Seany91 (talk) 13:32, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
Move
Would suggest moving page to Sophia Wilson, as she is more noteworthy than any other Sophia Wilson.Tomrtn (talk) 02:35, 12 February 2025 (UTC)

Sophia Wilson (soccer) → Sophia Wilson – clear WP:PRIMARYTOPIC Joeykai (talk) 23:21, 22 February 2025 (UTC)

- Support per nom. I don't often view articles as being PRIMARY, but this is a clear case. GiantSnowman 09:50, 23 February 2025 (UTC)
- Support. I opposed her being the primary for Sophia Smith, but it makes sense for her to be the primary for Sophia Wilson. Cielquiparle (talk) 14:46, 23 February 2025 (UTC)
- Support Most noteworthy of her name.Tomrtn (talk) 13:38, 25 February 2025 (UTC)
- Support No other notable people named Sophia Wilson. I also suggest that the redirect Sophia Smith (soccer) be changed from Sophia Smith to this page. If that does happen, I would also suggest looking again into Sophia Smith and discussing whether it should redirect to this page or not
