No, Ustadeditor2011, that is not what is happening. Someone nominated the article for deletion based on a good faith concern that it doesn't meet our criteria for inclusion. Hello, I'm afraid the tech is quite beyond me but I have found myself globally blocked by you, despite having been an editor in good standing for some 17 years. Not complaining but is there anything you can do to remove the block? I've tried appealing but I have to copy and paste an inordinately lengthy appeal reference in order to verify the appeal and my IT system does not permit of such copying and pasting. Hi, @45ossington. I'm sorry to hear you're facing issues with editing.

Two notes for background:

• Your account is not, and has never been blocked. This means that whatever block you're running into is almost certainly related to the network ("IP range") you were trying to edit from, and was not targeted at you specifically.
• I am an administrator on the English Wikipedia only, so I can not impose global blocks; that's something only stewards can do. If the block message mentioned my regardless, it is likely that both a local and a global block were imposed.

It is hard for me to help directly without knowing the block target (in all likelihood, the IP address or range you were trying to edit from). If you are unwilling to post this publicly (and sharing it on WP:UTRS is not an option because of technical issues), you could email it to me here. Once I know the target, I'd be more than happy to investigate. Before we go down that road: Were you attempting to edit while a VPN service (or similar "anonymiser") was active on your computer? If you were, you may be able to resolve the issue by turning off the service, clearing your browser's cookies, and waiting some time.

Hello; thank you very much for taking the time and trouble to respond. In fact, my appeal appears to have been dealt with, despite my failure to verify it, and I have been told:

"Looking at our logs, it appears the IP address that you are editing from belongs to a proxy service. Open or anonymizing proxies, including VPNs, iCloud Private Relay, Tor, and web hosting services, are blocked from editing Wikipedia. While this may affect legitimate users, they are not the intended targets. No restrictions are placed on reading Wikipedia through an open or anonymous proxy. Although Wikipedia encourages anyone in the world to contribute, open proxies are often used abusively. MediaWiki, the wiki software that powers Wikipedia, depends on IP addresses for administrator intervention against abuse, especially by anonymous users. Open proxies allow malicious users to rapidly change IP addresses, causing continuous disruption that cannot be stopped by administrators. Several such attacks have occurred on Wikimedia projects, causing disruption and occupying administrators who would otherwise deal with other concerns. Unfortunately, you will not be able to edit while using this open proxy."

I am not conscious of using a proxy service or VPN or web-hosting service on my ipad and I have no idea how to recognise such a thing, let alone how to remove it, or what the other consequences of removal might be. I therefore seem to be stuck. I appreciate that Wikipedia does not impose these general rules for fun. @45ossington, if you're on an iPad and haven't consciously installed an anonymiser, the issue may be with iCloud Private Relay, which is a proxy service developed by Apple and shipped with iOS.

So, here's my query, right here. I was trying to see how many CSD G13 page deletions I've done this year which are the bulk of my page deletions. But this query resulted in a severe undercount so I'm not sure what I did wrong with the code here. For a long time, I've been interested in getting a type breakdown of my page deletions from CSD to PRODs and AFDs although I don't think this query can discern PRODs and AFD deletions. Hi @Liz -- The problem is the log_namespace = 2 constraint, which limits the search to the User: namespace. @Liz: I ran some analyses on the data from this query. I classified these into belonging to different deletion processes by parsing the summaries, looking for (1) comments that match a CSD criterium (i.e. the letters G, U, A, F, R, C, X, or T, followed by one or two digits), (2) comments that match "PROD" or "proposed", (3) comments that match "AfD", "Articles for Deletion" or variants thereof (e.g. "articles_for_deletion"), and (4) comments that match a different deletion venue (RfD, TfD, MfD etc.). Here's a breakdown by process for the entire time period; I collapsed non-AfD discussion venues into a single category, and separated G8 from other CSDs since G8s are usually associated with some other deletion process:

Sorry to bother you but, I noticed that a wiki page (Talk:Baron Teynham) had been tagged for deletion in April 2021 and via checking the account (User:Historymix) that had put the request in, noticed that it was linked to a sock investigation you worked on back in 2021 as part of your clerk training process: WP:Sockpuppet_investigations/Alibarzanjilo/Archive

Sorry for the delayed response, @SummersRising! A bit of a blast from the past you got there – I unfortunately don't remember much from that SPI, but I'd be happy to take a look some time in the coming days and, if warranted, consolidate the cases. If there is anything besides the overlap on the Teynham that makes you think these are the same, please let me know – that might help get me up to speed a bit quicker.

As for your general question regarding a noticeboard: There is no venue solely dedicated to case merges, but there are a few good routes you can take:

• If you have a new, related, account to file anyway, you can tack on the evidence linking the cases and whoever handles it will evaluate the connection
• You can make a post at WT:SPI asking for input/assistance
• You can reach out to a clerk or CU directly (ideally one familiar with the case)

I'll also note that, broadly speaking, pursuing merges tends to only really be worth it for cases that are ongoing (i.e.: if two cases technically belong together but haven't had any activity in years, it's probably fine to just let it be). --Blablubbs (talk) 12:16, 5 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I had no idea there had been previous cases involving the page so thought it would be best to ask, just in case the same group had decided to pick up where they left off. As for the connection, both the previous investigation and the new one touched on editing in claims of abuse. The same claims being edited in are also ongoing on the Hanna Jaff page, but it's being dealt with by @Anachronist from the looks of it.

We have a talk going on the Teynham page with a few admins chiming in on issues, but it seemed diligent to check if it's also a group meat/sock puppet effort still active over other related pages using other accounts.

• Following a request for comment, there is a new policy outlining the granting of permissions to view the IP addresses of temporary accounts. Temporary account deployment on the English Wikipedia is currently scheduled for September 2025, and editors can request access to the permission ahead of time. Admins are encouraged to keep an eye on the request page; there will likely be a flood of editors requesting the permission when they realize they can no longer see IP addresses.

• Administrators can now restrict the "Add a Link" feature to newcomers. The "Add a Link" Structured Task helps new account holders get started with editing. Administrators can configure this setting in the Community Configuration page.

Hello, Blablubbs. This message is being sent to remind you of significant upcoming changes regarding logged-out editing.

Starting 4 November, logged-out editors will no longer have their IP address publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account (TA) associated with their edits. Users with some extended rights like administrators and CheckUsers, as well as users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will still be able to reveal temporary users' IP addresses and all contributions made by temporary accounts from a specific IP address or range.

How do temporary accounts work?

• When a logged-out user completes an edit or a logged action for the first time, a cookie will be set in this user's browser and a temporary account tied with this cookie will be automatically created for them. This account's name will follow the pattern: ~2025-12345-67 (a tilde, year of creation, a number split into units of 5).
• All subsequent actions by the temporary account user will be attributed to this username. The cookie will expire 90 days after its creation. As long as it exists, all edits made from this device will be attributed to this temporary account. It will be the same account even if the IP address changes, unless the user clears their cookies or uses a different device or web browser.
• A record of the IP address used at the time of each edit will be stored for 90 days after the edit. Users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will be able to see the underlying IP addresses.
• As a measure against vandalism, there are two limitations on the creation of temporary accounts:
  • There has to be a minimum of 10 minutes between subsequent temporary account creations from the same IP (or /64 range in case of IPv6).
  • There can be a maximum of 6 temporary accounts created from an IP (or /64 range) within a period of 24 hours.

Temporary account IP viewer user right

• Administrators may grant the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right to non-administrators who meet the criteria for granting. Importantly, an editor must make an explicit request for the permission (e.g. at WP:PERM/TAIV)—administrators are not permitted to assign the right without a request.
• Administrators will automatically be able to see temporary account IP information once they have accepted the Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy via Special:Preferences or via the onboarding dialog which comes up after temporary accounts are deployed.

Impact for administrators

• It will be possible to block many abusers by just blocking their temporary accounts. A blocked person won't be able to create new temporary accounts quickly if the admin selects the autoblock option.
• It will still be possible to block an IP address or IP range.
• Temporary accounts will not be retroactively applied to contributions made before the deployment. On Special:Contributions, you will be able to see existing IP user contributions, but not new contributions made by temporary accounts on that IP address. Instead, you should use Special:IPContributions for this (see a video about IPContributions in a gallery below).

Rules about IP information disclosure

• Publicizing an IP address gained through TAIV access is generally not allowed (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 previously edited as 192.0.2.1 or ~2025-12345-67's IP address is 192.0.2.1).
• Publicly linking a TA to another TA is allowed if "reasonably believed to be necessary". (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 and ~2025-12345-68 are likely the same person, so I am counting their reverts together toward 3RR, but not Hey ~2025-12345-68, you did some good editing as ~2025-12345-67)
• See Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer § What can and can't be said for more detailed guidelines.

Useful tools for patrollers

• It is possible to view if a user has opted-in to view temporary account IPs via the User Info card, available in Preferences → Appearance → Advanced options → Enable the user info card
  • This feature also makes it possible for anyone to see the approximate count of temporary accounts active on the same IP address range.
• Special:IPContributions allows viewing all edits and temporary accounts connected to a specific IP address or IP range.
• Similarly, Special:GlobalContributions supports global search for a given temporary account's activity.
• The auto-reveal feature (see video below) allows users with the right permissions to automatically reveal all IP addresses for a limited time window.

Hi, I saw/ remember your name at the Meta Antispam project. There was a post by a newish user at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard#Miss Grand Lithuania on 1 November. That editor had nominated Miss Grand articles for deletion Miss Grand Lithuania (deleted) and 17 others (relisted today) and hasn't edited since 1 November.

I looked for articles about Miss Grand and found 451, of which 390 were created by one editor. That editor has also created a version of Miss Grand International in 50 languages. (That title was salted on en Wikipedia until 2021.) Where I have checked, the contests don't seem notable, e.g. Miss Grand Lithuania and Miss Grand Cantabria. This looks like spam, do you have any suggestions about what to do, if anything? The articles are mostly on en Wikipedia and there is one main editor, who denies COI, so I have no particular reason to suspect sockpuppetry. Hi TSventon! I'm not familiar with this specific cluster of articles or the pageant topic area more generally, so I want to stress that I can't really comment on the merits – only on what I might do in a situation like the one you describe. With that out of the way, a couple thoughts:

1. As for the articles themselves, I think Bri (who knows much more about this topic area than I do) gives sound advice: A bundled AfD is an option, as is redirection (though note that per WP:ATD-R, challenged redirections would still have to go to AfD). A bulk AfD would probably have to make a convincing case that these articles are in fact non-notable (which, as a sidenote, the current nominations don't seem to really be doing).
2. The COIN thread asserts that there is promotion, but so far doesn't really do much to substantiate that claim. If you're convinced there's a COI angle worth pursuing, I would recommend compiling evidence to that effect and presenting it there.
3. If a COI cannot be established, but you think there is evidence of problematic editing patterns, it may be worth reaching out to the editor in question directly, and – if no constructive outcome can be reached – a trip to a user conduct noticeboard other than COIN might also be warranted.
4. If there's a cross-wiki element involved, a thread at m:Talk:Wikiproject:Antispam might make sense.

Guideline and policy news

• All general sanctions imposed by the community may now be enforced at the Arbitration Enforcement noticeboard (WP:AE) as a result of a recent RfC.
• Due to the result of a recent RFC, the administrator recall process is amended to extend the deadline for a re-request for adminship to 30 days or the next administrator election, whichever is later.
• Changes to the Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy's disclosure rules include broadening the consecutive-blocks exception to cover all admin actions and removing the requirement to revision-delete permissible disclosures once they become unnecessary (instead requiring only their removal). See WP:TAIVDISCLOSE for more information.

Arbitration

• Following the 2025 Arbitration Committee elections, the following editors have been elected to the Arbitration Committee: Aoidh, Asilvering, Girth Summit, Guerillero, HJ Mitchell, HouseBlaster, Izno, Sdrqaz, SilverLocust.
• The arbitration case Pbsouthwood has been suspended.

Arbitration

• Due to the result of a recent motion, a rough consensus of administrators at the arbitration enforcement noticeboard may impose an expanded topic ban on Israel, Israelis, Jews, Judaism, Palestine, Palestinians, Islam, and/or Arabs, if an editor's Arab-Israeli conflict topic ban is determined to be insufficient to prevent disruption. At least one diff per area expanded into should be cited.

Miscellaneous

• Voting in the 2026 Steward elections started on 06 February 2026 at 14:00 (UTC) and will end on 27 February 2026 at 14:00 (UTC). The confirmation process for current stewards is being held in parallel. You can automatically check your eligibility to vote.

• Following an RfC, the web archival service archive.today has been deprecated; links to the site should be removed.
• A request for comment is open to discuss retiring CSD criterion R3 in favour of handling such redirects through RfD.

Arbitration

• Following a motion, remedy 9.1 of the Conduct in deletion-related editing case has been amended to limit TenPoundHammer to one XfD nomination or PROD per 24-hour period.
• Following a motion, the Iskandar323 further POV pushing motion has been rescinded.
• The Arbitration Committee has passed a housekeeping motion rescinding a number of outdated remedies and enforcement provisions across multiple legacy cases. In most instances, existing sanctions remain in force and continue to be appealable through the usual processes, while some case-specific remedies were amended or clarified.
