| General: Article is new enough and long enough |

Policy compliance:
- Adequate sourcing:
- Concerns about the reliability and quality of sources used, especially for the hooks. - Neutral:

- Free of copyright violations, plagiarism, and close paraphrasing:

- Other problems:
- Article is tagged as needing a copyedit, and I agree. It reads way too informally at points.
Hook eligibility:
- Cited:
- The Manual (misspelled as The Manuel) used for ALT0 seems to be a clickbait-like website run by Digital Trends, which I would disqualify as a reliable source. InspireMore (used for ALT1) also seems to have journalistic standards and an editorial staff, but is very low quality; surely there's better sources out there? - Interesting:

| QPQ: Done. |
Overall:
Article need some work, especially in the sourcing department. ALT0 would be usable with some cleanup and a better source. SounderBruce 04:47, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
- @SounderBruce: Thank you for the review, and I'm sorry for submitting this article in such a poor state, I didn't realize how many things were wrong with it! I have removed The Manual source from the page, replaced the ALT0 source with a much better one from Golf Digest, and added a supporting source for ALT1. I'm really bad at copyediting, its something I wish I was better at, but I believe I've removed the worst of the informal wording from the page, so please feel free to tell me what other corrections I can do for the page. Thank you again, and cheers! Johnson524 18:51, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Johnson524: Went through and did a quick copyedit, but there are still major sourcing issues. SounderBruce 02:50, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- @SounderBruce: Thank you for the further copyediting! Can you clarify what you mean by major sourcing concerns? I've removed the InspireMore source if that's what you meant, but your concern sounded plural. Cheers! Johnson524 03:41, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- @SounderBruce: Pinging. Cheers! Johnson524 09:32, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
- Mediahub (which is linked to a different organization) seems to be a less-reliable version of a student newspaper, so it should be removed. MyModernMet is a blog with very little editorial input, seeing as they just embed Instagram posts for the majority of the article's content. There's also quite a bit that is sourced directly from the owner's website, which really should be replaced as much as possible. SounderBruce 07:00, 20 December 2024 (UTC)

- @SounderBruce:@Narutolovehinata5: Sorry about the late reply, I must have missed this! The issues above have been corrected except for removing the Mediahub source. It is written by the school of journalism at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, by students (according to their about page) that are under the editorial supervision of multiple of their professors. Per WP:RSSM, I do not think this source is unreliable or lacking editorial input. I don't want to waste anymore of your time, however, and since I've already replied late, you can fail this nom if you still disagree, but I really ask that you don't. Mediahub is not at the same level of reputability as a normal student newspaper (in this case, the Daily Tar Heel), so I cannot approve this nomination. SounderBruce 04:52, 3 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Johnson524: If the Mediahub references are not replaced or removed, the nomination will be closed as unsuccessful. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 10:31, 3 January 2025 (UTC)

| 7. Overall assessment. | God bless that pupper. Wish I could've seen him. | |
Lead
- "In baseball..." -> "During baseball games..." (same goes for "in football...")
Done
- "...where he retrieved bats and returned them free of saliva or bite marks." - Doubtful that this is relevant. I mean, obviously, the dog does a great job at what he does, so I have no clue why this is mentioned.
Comment: Something I kept reading which made Ripken stand out from a number of other bat dogs was the fact he returned bats this way. It was the number one concern of the Durham Bulls, and the fact Ripken pulled this off each time allowed him to be kept. If you would still like me to do this, however, I can. Johnson524 18:20, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
- Actually, that's interesting. Keep that in. TWOrantulaTM (enter the web) 18:54, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
- Does "Champ" need to be put in quote marks?
Done
- "As Ripken approached ten years of age" - Was this during 2024 (or at least the mid 2020s)? Don't really like how this phrase puts the sentence in an awkward time frame.
Done
- Added the date Champ was set to replace Ripken. (Hopefully, it doesn't sound too awkward.)
Done This looks great, thank you! Johnson524 18:20, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
- Also added his birth information. (Again, you can change it up to fit your needs.)
Done Only slightly edited down but otherwise another helpful addition. Johnson524 18:20, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
Early life
- "Ripken was recorded as weighing 70 lb (32 kg) on his minor league baseball profile." - Why can't we directly say that he weighs that much?
Done
- "...which would combine his two interests." - Which are... baseball and dogs???
Comment: I'm sorry I misunderstand, is there a problem with the sentence? I included it to show his reasons/inspiration for training a bat dog. Johnson524 18:20, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
- Oops! I've re-read the passage, and it turns out that sentence does make sense. Both of O'Donnell's interests are mentioned in previous sentences, and somehow I didn't pick that up the first time I read it. TWOrantulaTM (enter the web) 18:59, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
- "Ripken eventually began appearing in O'Donnell's Sit Means Sit commercials as the Apex and Charlotte franchise's "spokesdog"." - Any specific date for this? (It's fine if there isn't.)
Done Unfortunately I was never able to find a year or date for this, not for lack of trying. Johnson524 18:20, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
Career
- In baseball terminology, is it "debuted for" or "debuted in"?
Comment: "debuted for" sounds more grammatically correct for the ways its used in the article, but if you believe otherwise I can change it. Johnson524 18:20, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
- Seems fine. TWOrantulaTM (enter the web) 19:07, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
- "Ripken also wore a golden gem-studded necklace of his initial "R" wearing a crown while on the field." - Don't see how this is relevant?
Comment: It was kind of his "thing", with the necklace being the only thing which made him stand out as a other-than-average dog on T-shirts, promotions, etc. and I thought I'd give it a mention. Of course if you still believe it should be removed I can do that. Johnson524 18:20, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hmm... I like it. Keep it in. TWOrantulaTM (enter the web) 19:08, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
- "The larger venue" - The crowd or social media? Both?
Done
Death and legacy
- I miss that pupper. Even sadder that he died on New Year's Day.
Done Me too, for that reason I really do appreciate in the in depth review, and I deeply appreciate your patience while I got these changes done 🙂 Johnson524 18:20, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
- Again, happy to help. :D TWOrantulaTM (enter the web) 19:08, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
- "Ripken featured as the grand marshal at the annual Christmas parade in Fuquay-Varina..." - Not sure how a dog is featured as a military rank??
Done Yeah it's definitely a silly title, I'm glad the wikilink starts by saying its a ceremonial title. Johnson524 18:20, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
- "Days after his death" - Do we have a specific number of days?
Done
- "By at least April 2025" - Unclear phrasing. Do you mean as early as April?
Done
Associate dogs
- "...Rivers showed a slight temperament and did not like people in hats, which was often the majority of people in a baseball stadium." -> "Rivers showed distaste towards people in hats, which was often the majority of people in a baseball stadium."
Done
- Some parts of the text contained semi-informal and clunky phrases; I've managed to clean those up, so the prose should be a smidge cleaner.
Done Thank you! Johnson524 18:20, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
- Welcome! TWOrantulaTM (enter the web) 19:12, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
- Also, why mention behavioral issues?
Comment: Just as a contrast to Rivers, and why Champ was chosen instead. I can remove this is you'd like? Johnson524 18:20, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
- I'd recommend keeping it in because it adds more context to his successors. TWOrantulaTM (enter the web) 19:13, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
