Your GA nomination of Sarah Geronimo

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Sarah Geronimo you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by ChristieBot, on behalf of Spookyaki -- Spookyaki (talk) 05:43, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Spookyaki: Okay. Good luck on your review. ScarletViolet tc 13:44, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Your GA nomination of Sarah Geronimo

The article Sarah Geronimo you nominated as a good article has failed ; see Talk:Sarah Geronimo for reasons why the nomination failed. If or when these points have been taken care of, you may apply for a new nomination of the article. Re: Renom to GA, or straight to FA

Responding to your message on my talk page. I covered a lot of the major issues in the review itself, but here are the two biggest areas that I would focus on for improving the article:

  • Prose — There are some sections of the article where it's not entirely clear what is being said. For example, the sentence "Asilo described the album as Geronimo's bold reinvention and adaptability as a singer." It seems like the clause "adaptability as a singer" is supposed to be describing "the album," but an album cannot sing. I get a bit more granular on this in the review, but if you're having difficulty, I honestly wonder if putting in a request at Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Requests might help. Alternatively, you could add a copyedit template (Template:Copy edit). I also might be willing to do some copyediting myself, though I won't have a lot of time to devote to it in the next few weeks. I also think that would preclude me personally from re-reviewing the article; someone else would have to do it.
  • Alignment with sources — There are various points in the article where claims are made that do not align with the sources that are supposed to support them. Again, I get more granular in the review, but as an example, in the article you quote Jennifer Dunega as saying that "Geronimo’s vulnerability is adorable while her new-found fierceness is laugh-out-loud funny without being over-the-top, [and] it didn't distract from her appeal." This makes it seem like Dunega is saying that Geronimo's vulnerability does not detract from her appeal, but the actual quote is "Sarah Geronimo's vulnerability is adorable while her new-found fierceness is laugh-out-loud funny without being over-the-top. Though it is unclear and odd why she needs to wear a wig throughout the film, it doesn't distract from her appeal." It's evident from the full quote that the thing that doesn't distract from her appeal is the wig. In this case, the source has been misrepresented to draw a conclusion that isn't supported by the original author. There are other instances where claims are made that are contradicted or not even mentioned by the appended sources. For example, "in 2014, Geronimo starred in her next film Maybe This Time, which reunited her with Coco Martin" is contradicted by the source, which says that the film is their "maiden... collaboration." I would recommend going through each source and making sure that they actually say what the article says they do.

I didn't mention it in my review, but I think it's also possible that people might call into question the reliability of the article's sources, since most (basically all articles from PEP, Philstar, and ABS-CBN) are not written in WP:NPOV. I personally thought the way they were used was fine, since (a) there is no consensus about most of them at Wikipedia:Tambayan Philippines/Sources and (b) the article itself is written in a neutral tone and non-neutral statements are generally attributed to their respective writers, but others might find fault with them.

Again, I get more granular in the review, but those are the biggest thing I would consider tackling. Good luck and thanks for your work! Let me know if you have any more questions. Spookyaki (talk) 01:52, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Spookyaki: I hope this understood me well. Thank you! PS After this, I can either open up a peer review, second GAN nomination, or even straight to FAC since I believe it's already comprehensive. ScarletViolet tc 01:56, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sure! It doesn’t seem to me like comprehensiveness is a major issue in the article, no. Once the major issues are worked out I think that either a peer review or GAN resubmit would be reasonable. Spookyaki (talk) 02:02, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please, stop tagging me in these random copy edit discussions. Speaking for myself (though I'm sure some of the others might agree). Just because I've copy edited some articles for Philippine television programs/networks does not mean I need to be pinged any time anybody on the project discusses one. You've already been warned by other editors, including administrators, to not do this. If you truly would like my assistance or input you are welcome to reach me on *my* talk page. "Teleserye" lead article issues

While I was doing the draft for Saving Grace, the IP user said that the upcoming series is not considered a teleserye, and removed the link the Philippine television drama. [1] I'm sure that series counts as a teleserye since it is set to be releasing on a streaming service, doesn't it? JRGuevarra (talk) 15:47, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This user doesn't understand what makes it a teleserye or not so why ask him? And this will be 14 episodes teleseryes don't do weekly episodes until a they release the teleserye version similar to Linlang. Teleseryes release episodes 5 days per week and reaches like 100 plus episodes because each episode is 20 minutes while the streaming one is 1 hour per episode. 122.55.235.127 (talk) 08:26, 22 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

On Teleseryes again.

Why be consistent with GMA's television series wiki's, ABS-CBN should be it's own so there's no problem if it's not called Philippine television drama and call Philippine drama television series or whatever genre it will give. No need to be consistent I don't know why you have to be consistet with GMA. I think GMA should be consistent with ABS-CBN and don't link Philippine television drama and follow the american way of the series. Hope you understand. Let GMA be it's own or let GMA follow ABS-CBN not the other way around. 122.55.235.127 (talk) 08:33, 22 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Then why can't I change it to the one without the Philippine television drama and change it to Philippine drama television series it doesn't need to be consistent. ABS-CBN and GMA are both different networks anyways. I don't see the point on making it consistent. Maybe just don't out Philippine television drama link and name Philippine drama television series that way we would distinguish it easier. 122.55.235.127 (talk) 02:15, 25 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Tik tok. Pls help me here Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2025 January 9. They're trying to monopolize information PER cancel culture. gtp (talk) 08:49, 9 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited NBA on NBC, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Sunday Night Football. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Not using the edit summary

Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that one or more recent edit(s) you made did not have an edit summary. You can use the edit summary field to explain your reasoning for an edit, or to provide a description of what the edit changes. Summaries save time for other editors and reduce the chances that your edit will be misunderstood. For some edits, an adequate summary may be quite brief.

The edit summary field looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

Please provide an edit summary for every edit you make. With a Wikipedia account, you can give yourself a reminder by setting Preferences → Editing → Tick Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary (or the default undo summary), and then click the "Save" button. Thanks! Hotwiki (talk) 13:30, 10 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Removing pictures

Why did you remove pictures from that Big Brother PH? Also that edit of yours wasn't a minor edit. Please read Help:Minor edit, to know what a minor edit is in Wikipedia. Its clearly stated in that page that "A minor edit requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute.". Hotwiki (talk) 14:20, 15 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I checked your edit once again and your second edit was indeed a minor edit. Also please read Wikipedia:Independent sources, even though its okay to use links from ABS-CBN and GMA network, it is also important to use independent sources. Per Wikipedia:Independent sources – "Using independent sources (also called third-party sources) helps editors build non-promotional articles that fairly portray the subject, without undue attention to the subject's own views." Thats why I removed the gmanetwork.com reference in the lead section, and replaced it with a link from Abante, a third party source who isn't associated with the Pinoy Big Brother show. But you then removed the Abante link and added a reference from ABS-CBN, who is producing the show. Hotwiki (talk) 14:37, 15 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Hotwiki: Alright, I'll explain. The pictures of the cast and/or presenters, as seen, for example, in Unang Hirit, may be considered WP:UNDUE (in my opinion). I am also working hard to improving articles related to Philippine television, including GMA Network shows, to make it understandable to a global audience. Look at the example in Songbird (TV program). It is well-written and comprehensive, and now visually appealing, even to non-Filipino readers. In my sandbox, I'm currently working on Pulang Araw. For the lead, I took cues from GA- and FA-rated American series, such as Grey's Anatomy and House (TV series).
As for the citations, translating non-English titles is part of my ongoing effort to improve Philippines-related articles, as mentioned above, but I'm doing a good effort in using reliable sources. Using such abbreviations and short-forms like PEP, Inquirer, Philstar, etc., for me, may not be understandable to non-Filipino readers. For example, in Pulang Araw, the following citation:

"Pulang Araw pilot episode sa GMA-7, nagapi ba ang Batang Quiapo?". PEP. July 30, 2024. Archived from the original on July 30, 2024. Retrieved July 30, 2024.

Can be improved into:

"Pulang Araw pilot episode sa GMA-7, nagapi ba ang Batang Quiapo?" [Did Pulang Araw's pilot episode on GMA-7 top Batang Quiapo?]. Philippine Entertainment Portal (in Tagalog). July 30, 2024. Retrieved February 17, 2025.

By expanding on the abbreviation PEP and adding the English translation for the title and mentioning the original language of the source. FA-rated Philippine music-related articles like Regine Velasquez and "Gento" (song) have high-quality and consistently-formatted citations in which all the components (author, title, publisher, date) are understandable to a global audience. Even the Filipino/Tagalog-language sources have the original language mentioned in the sources (see the respective articles "References" sections for your reference). Again, I am working hard to improve Philippine television-related articles, and I aim to "be the very best like no one ever was" in terms of article improvements. Thank you for your understanding. ScarletViolet 11:52, 17 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You are assuming all Filipino readers know exactly what "Pep" / "Philippine Entertainment Portal" are, when not the entire Philippine population is aware of a certain entertainment website. You should stop viewing it as "Filipino readers vs non-Filipino readers". This is English Wikipedia, which features various topics across the world. PEP is also the common name of PEP.ph, while Philippine Entertainment Portal serves as the secondary name of the website, hence why it is written as "PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal)" in the title bar of the web browser, when we visit that website. As for translations, I wasn't asking you, not to translate Tagalog words in citation templates, when translation templates are all over GMA Network articles in the first place. As for cast pictures, several international Wikipedia articles have them. Most pictures have been removed in the draft article since another editor gave a reason in removing them, which you didn't do, hence why I messaged you here. Hotwiki (talk) 12:05, 17 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Also you didn't address about your removal of a third-party reference, and replacing it with a first party reference. I wasn't even talking about translations/PEP when I messaged you here in your own talk page. Hotwiki (talk) 12:15, 17 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I am so sorry. Again, I'll try my best to research and look for third-party sources as soon as possible. Thank you. ScarletViolet 13:49, 17 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
