Karel Krnka (6 April 1858 - 25 February 1926) was an Austro-Hungarian firearm and ammunition designer. After a serving in the Austro-Hungarian army as a lieutenant, he initially worked with his father, Sylvestr Krnka, on a number of improvements to repeating rifle designs including detachable magazines and charger (clip) loading systems[1]. His work with Georg Roth and the G. Roth Aktiengesellschaft company resulted in the self-loading pistol design of 1899 which was further developed for manufacture by Oesterreichische Waffenfabrik Gesellschaft (OEWG) in Steyr, Austria and by Fegyver es Gepgyar (FEG) of Budapest, Hungary, as the Model 1907 Roth-Steyr; the first self-loading pistol to be widely adopted by a major European military power.
