How does Wikipedia deal with a mass shooting? A frenzied start gives way to a few core editors. No mention of me though:). Nice diagrams, and a quick look at the page histories of shooting incidents will show a core of regular editors.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 17:30, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

HI WWGB, I'm a researcher at Sydney Uni and would like to contact you. I'm not sure how best to do this and hoping this message somehow reaches you....Doctor 17. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Doctor 17 (talk • contribs) 08:45, 18 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This initial contact led to this article. WWGB (talk) 02:49, 10 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Were you aware?

I assume that you have been made aware of this. But, in the event that you were not, I wanted to point it out to you and bring this to your attention. Your name was mentioned in this article: How does Wikipedia deal with a mass shooting? A frenzied start gives way to a few core editors. Thanks. Joseph A. Thank you for the name move on the page I created

I was debating whether the page should have been titled ‘Killing of’ to begin with, but I was a bit unsure. I’ve created a few similar pages, and I wanted your view on whether all such articles should use that format until someone is convicted of murder, even when the circumstances are widely understood to be homicidal. Thank you ItsShandog (talk) 09:40, 1 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@ItsShandog: We usually title such articles as "Killing of" until a murder conviction is reached, in accordance with WP:BLPCRIME. An exception is made when all perpetrators die in the incident; we go straight to "Murder of" as there will never be a trial. WWGB (talk) 09:49, 1 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
That makes a lot of sense thank you. ItsShandog (talk) 09:51, 1 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Also is the wording in the body of the article okay? I made sure to word it so it doesn't make anyone sound guilty until proven in court. ItsShandog (talk) 09:54, 1 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I removed the Murder categories for the same reason, and made a few cosmetic changes to the article. Otherwise, it looks great! WWGB (talk) 10:08, 1 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the help, much appreciated! ItsShandog (talk) 10:27, 1 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Damien Byrne (deaths in 2026)

I would like you to notice that Damien Byrne did not really play Gaelic football, but soccer (English football). Even if he was Irish. Even an Englishman could play Gaelic or American football. Thanks! Italy & San Marino Friend (talk) 12:04, 6 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Italy & San Marino Friend: Thanks, my bad. WWGB (talk) 12:33, 6 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Ok! Thanks. We can archive the conversation.:)
I wanted to avoid further editing in the main page.
P.S.: can Wiki editors have private talks for the future? Unsure if there's a way. Italy & San Marino Friend (talk) 12:37, 6 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Canada shooting

Surprised for a veteran editor to add something unsourced.[4] Psephguru (talk) 11:15, 11 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Psephguru: An earlier version of The Guardian included the phrase "withheld their name for privacy". That was obviously changed by staff as the day progressed. I thought I was on solid ground, but acknowledge that I should have re-checked the source before reverting. Regards, WWGB (talk) 11:54, 11 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

"Visitor"

I didn't (and wouldn't) add that tag but I saw your edit on my watchlist. Perhaps "an attendee at the..."? aesurias (ping me in your reply, or I won't see it) (talk) 04:06, 23 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Visitor :"someone who visits a person or place". I don't see any issue ... WWGB (talk) 04:23, 23 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I agree , only suggesting an alternative as somebody seems to have an issue with it. aesurias (ping me in your reply, or I won't see it) (talk) 04:28, 23 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
