Question from Jameskida (19:22, 4 February 2026)
Hello my mentor Rae,
I hope you are doing well and keeping wonderful spirits. I should have reached out to you earlier, but as the saying goes, “As long as you’re breathing, it’s never too late to do some good.”
I’ve reached a point where I feel a bit stuck. I tried to resolve this issue on my own, but I haven’t been successful, which is why I’m turning to you for guidance.
My question is about verifying references used on Wikipedia. Is there a reliable way to check the authenticity and credibility of sources before using them? Early on, I created an article on Wikipedia and used the source www.worldrecordacademy.com three to four times. Recently, the article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenneth_Grant_Winans) was tagged for deletion, which was quite upsetting for me.
I also contacted the person who added deletion tag and asked about the website and the award mentioned on www.sandiego.edu, but I was informed that this source was not considered reliable either.
At this point, I’m feeling confused and honestly a bit numb, as I’m not sure how to properly determine whether a platform or source is considered reliable by Wikipedia standards. I would truly appreciate on how to evaluate reference credibility and avoid these issues in the future. Thanks --Jameskida (talk) 19:22, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Jameskida: hiya, sorry, I've had a busy week and haven't been able to check this until now.
- I see the article was deleted at AfD. I'm sorry if, and I understand if, this is distressing - it's never fun to have your work deleted. Notability is often difficult to determine and it can take time to get an intuitive understanding for. If you have questions about future possible articles you may want to write, you can ask here and I'd be happy to discuss whether the existing sourcing seems to show notability. - Hi Mentor, no problem—I understand you’re busy. Yes, the article was deleted, but that’s okay. From now on, if I get stuck at any point, I’ll reach out to you. Thank you for your reply. Jameskida (talk) 00:11, 12 February 2026 (UTC)
