What is a “retirement” in the context of NCAA Football?
”Retirement” is the wrong term to use for College athletes. This is not professional football. These students are sidelined due to injuries, grades or occasionally personal issues. Sometimes these student athletes switch to a different sport - for instance a Notre Dame, Football players sometimes play a second sport - like how Rocket Ismael and Rusty Setzer for the 1988 National Championship Team also ran track. They are young and if they still have eligibility, they may come back. “Injured”, “furloughed” or “sidelined” is more accurate. Please don’t call it “retirement” CJM (talk) 16:14, 14 September 2025 (UTC)
