File:Symphony-Op.47-2.ogg
Summary
Audio Clip from track 2 of CD 3: Prokofiev, Sergey. Prokofiev: The Complete Symphonies. London Symphony Orchestra in London conducted by Valery Gergiev, 2004; Symphony No.4 Op.47. London: Decca Music Group Ltd, 475 7655, 2006. Compact disc. Fair use is claimed (less than 30 seconds/10% of the CD track is used, academic project, used only in article "Symphony No. 4 (Prokofiev)"). This audio clip helps to display the main theme in the second movement of Symphony No. 4 Op. 47. This is a fair example of a melody which Prokofiev liked and how he kept it for the revision. The difference in Opus 112 is that Prokofiev sets up the melody in a longer fashion. In general Prokofiev did this frequently in the revision. He felt that his work was not understand so he is setting themes up better to more clearly elucidate them for the listeners. There are currently no public domain recordings of this symphony because it is played so seldomly. Until a youth symphony or a college orchestra records either versions of this symphony the only way to hear samples will have to be from copyrighted material.
