School location
I copied the following comment I made from the Wikidata page:
"Even though Columbine High School was widely reported to be in "Littleton" by media outlets (because the U.S. postal service assigned the "city name" "Littleton"), in fact it is in the Columbine census-designated place, and is outside of the Littleton city limits.
I have cited the relevant census maps from 2020. Additionally, census maps from 1990 (which were current in 1999) also reported this school to be in the Columbine CDP (which existed back then). Note that the CDPs have no relevance in governance, and are created by the U.S. Census Bureau (a federal government authority) for statistics-taking purposes.
Remember the USPS postal address city name does not always coincide with the actual municipal boundaries. The City of Houston stated: "The U.S. Postal Service establishes ZIP codes and mailing addresses in order to maximize the efficiency of their system, not to recognize jurisdictional boundaries."
And, I read the comment at Talk:Columbine_High_School/Archive_1#Incorrect_School_Location (this was archived). It's understandable one would come to this conclusion based off of media accounts and the school's USPS postal city name. However, the postal city name is misleading; the school is not physically in the Littleton city limits. It also was not in 1990, nor in 2000. WhisperToMe (talk) 02:58, 7 December 2025 (UTC)
