- With two goals from Luca Toni, Italy beats Ukraine 3-0 and advances to the semi-finals.
- After finishing with a 1-1 draw following extra time, Germany defeats Argentina 4-2 on penalties, and advances to the semi-finals. Klose scored Germany's only goal in the match and is still the competition's top scorer so far (5 goals).
- France turns the tables against Spain 3-1 and completes the quarter finalists' list.
- Brazil beats Ghana 3-0 and advances to the quarter finals; The defending champion set some historical records in this match; longest winning streak in World Cups with 11 wins; First team to score 200 goals in the World Cup and Ronaldo who scored Brazil's first goal, surpassed Gerd Mueller as the top scorer in the World Cup's history (15 goals).
