@7kk: Nomination fails WP:DYKFICTION: Given the fact that this is just describing a design detail with no real world context, it cannot feasibly be stated as having any. The article has several viable hooks that can be used that tie to the real world (Such as the bits about how its concept relates to real world entomology, the bits from the Mainichi source, or even some of the developmental information on the species, among other parts of the article).
- Also, just a minor note: The plural of a Pokémon species is just the species name, so in this case, the plural of Pinsir would just be "Pinsir". Magneton Considerer: Pokelego999 (Talk) (Contribs) 13:53, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
- Not a review or the nominator, but here to suggest a potential hook:
- ALT1: ... that the Pokémon Pinsir has "some of the gnarliest, ugliest, coolest teeth ever drawn"? Passes DYKFICTION, since this is a reviewer's quote
- Juxlos (talk) 16:05, 5 April 2025 (UTC)
- But is that really interesting? Per WP:DYKHOOKSTYLE, the hook should be "likely to be perceived as unusual or intriguing by readers with no special knowledge or interest." This hook is just citing how one reviewer thought about it, not anything else. Anyone can make a subjective opinion that a subject is "cool"; what makes Pinsir uniquely interesting from any other thing that can be described as "cool"? Why is it important that we know this? Right now all we're saying is that Pinsir exists and one dude thought it was cool. That's not really interesting, nor is it helpful. I'll see about making some ALT Hook suggestions later. - Creative works are always bastard hard to find interesting hooks for. I suggest something along the lines of ALT2: ... that rivalry displays involving the Pokémon Pinsir have been credited with re-emphasizing Japanese cultural interest in insects? (Is it worth adding Pinsir's national Pokédex number to the article and adding it to the hook, e.g. "the 127th Pokémon"?)--Launchballer 22:26, 16 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Launchballer: Thank you for the hook! Completely forgot to leave suggestions, so this is much appreciated. I think this should work fine, but granted I am a bit worried that it's a bit WP:WEASELy due to not specify who's saying this, though I'm not sure if this is not an issue or not at DYK. I believe this is meant to be sourced to the American Entomologist, correct? Magneton Considerer: Pokelego999 (Talk) (Contribs) 23:41, 16 April 2025 (UTC)
- Oh yeah. ALT2a: ... that American Entomologist credited rivalry displays involving the Pokémon Pinsir with re-emphasizing Japanese cultural interest in insects?--Launchballer 23:43, 16 April 2025 (UTC)
@Launchballer: Should be good to go! Thank you for your help. Magneton Considerer: Pokelego999 (Talk) (Contribs) 00:24, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
