Oğuz (Kurdish: Şimiz; Syriac: Šimiz)[2] is a village in the Beşiri District of Batman Province in Turkey.[3] The village is populated by Kurds and had a population of 405 in 2021.[1][4] The village is populated by Yazidis.[4]
The hamlets of Akdoğan, Kışlacık, Onbaşı and Yavuz are attached to the village.[3] Onbaşı is populated by Yazidis as well.[5]
History
Šimiz (today called Oğuz) was historically inhabited by Syriac Orthodox Christians.[2] In the Syriac Orthodox patriarchal register of dues of 1870, it was recorded that the village had 3 households, who paid 10 dues, and had one priest, but did not have a church.[2]
