  1. A strange way to thank Ottava for his support at your most recent RfC. Ah well. --Malleus Fatuorum 22:41, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • I do thank Ottava Rima for supporting me, along with most others, in the recent attempt of FAC editors to have me blocked as a means of discrediting my opinion as an editor in an FAC for an article that I was a major editor and is now an FA. However, perhaps because of the nastiness of those behind that RFC, I am especially sensitive when formal procedures are used to retaliated against an editor for an editorial opinion. Thus my distaste with filing a sock puppet report in order to demean Fowler&Fowler for his comments on an article, with which OR disagreed, although the editors of the article agreed with Fowler&Fowler and have since solicited his help with the article. I am sorry that you want to bring up my RFC here, in a similar attempt to discredit my Oppose in this RFA. Similar tactics on your part, Malleus, do not become you. I think all such maneuvers are ugly. (I knew when I voted I was risking such a comment from you. Such behavior from OR's supporters do not further his cause. You are doing exactly what I object to in OR: attemping to slander an editor to discredit an opinion or vote.) —Mattisse (Talk) 23:50, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I suggest that you have a good night's sleep, and then look up the word "slander" in your dictionary. --Malleus Fatuorum 00:02, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Slander, "words falsely spoken that damage the reputation of another". Mattisse's words don't seem false, and I don't think OR's reputation has been damaged at all. Unless you meant a legal definition of slander, but that is not relevant here. Chillum 00:08, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Are you pretending to be dense to make some kind of point, or for a bet? It seemed quite plain that Mattisse was accusing me of slander, not Ottava. --Malleus Fatuorum 00:26, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You misunderstand, Malleus. I was accusing you both of it. The behavior is the same. Surround a person with false, misleading accusations or statements so as to discredit their opinion on a particular point. Applies whether is is accusations of sockpuppetry or bringing up a malicious RFC. Same behavior with the malicious intent to discredit. —Mattisse (Talk) 00:47, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose I was being dense, not to make a point, I simply misunderstood your words. They were ambiguous, now that you have clarified them I retract my preceding statement. Chillum 00:33, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Malleus. Don't try to make others look the fool. It is just another means you typically use to discredit another's opinion. Also an ugly tactic on your part. —Mattisse (Talk) 00:39, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
(out) I don't want to get involved in arguing over "slander", but I do want to echo Mattisse's concern about the recent sockpuppet accusation. Accusing opponents of sock puppeteering or general "ethical" problems seems to be common behavior for Ottava; less than two months ago, for example, he was accusing me of socking at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Rare Disease Day, and rather than file a real RFCU (which would have shown immediately that he was wrong) he just continued to throw around accusations in the AfD discussion in attempt to discredit me. I cannot see how this sort of behavior could ever be permissible in an admin; just from glancing here, it seems Ottava has already made two frivolous sockpuppet accusations, which is two more than a user in good standing should have. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 00:29, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
May I add that the Fowler&fowler accusation was particularly egregious. Not just because anyone who has seen F&f at work knows that he has no need for sock puppets in making his case but also because the nominee went out of his/her way to look for IP editing patterns in the hope of finding socks. I'm generally impressed by OR's demeanor in this RfA but the F&f thing is what prevents me from supporting and I'm not surprised that Matisse, who has a lot more experience working with both F&f as well as OR, prefers to oppose. --RegentsPark (My narrowboat) 01:10, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
