Nomination
Andrewmc123 (talk · contribs)
I wish to withdraw my RfA. Andrewmc123 (talk) 17:37, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have been an editor on the English Wikipedia for nine months now. I have been granted rollback rights and use these to help to revert vandalism. I have recently became involved in Afd and I am hoping to expand this in the near future. I have spent the last few months reverting vandalism and through this have become aware of most of the policies Wikipedia enforces. I have good knowledge in the deletion policy, especially speedy deletion. I have good general knowledge and have good practice of correct spelling, grammar and punctuation.
- Main Space
- Over a third of my edits are on main space articles. Most of them are related to the BBC Scotland soap opera River City.
- I have done substantial gnoming work- especialy reducing backlog at Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools.
- Project Work
- Recently started participating in discussion at Afd.
- Reverting vandalism on a regular basis.
- House Keeping
- Clean block log
- I have Rollback rights
- Suitable user page
- Sensible signature
- Email enabled acount
Questions for the candidate
Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve Wikipedia as an administrator. It is recommended that you answer these optional questions to provide guidance for participants:
- 1. What administrative work do you intend to take part in?
- A: I would definitely like to help out at AfD and at AIV. I would like to continue my work in reverting vandalism using Huggle. I would like to issue temporary semi-protection to pages and templates that are vandalised regularly. As time progresses, I would like to get more involved in other areas of Wikipedia that require attention.
- 2. What are your best contributions to Wikipedia, and why?
- A: Well, to be honest, I have not spent that long focusing on one main article. I spend most of my time on Wikipedia reverting vandalism. I would probably say that my best contribution is single-handedly creating WikiProject River City. Other articles that I have created include Camperdown Country Park and Sharon McLaren (River City).
- 3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
- A: I have not been in any major edit conflicts but in the past I have had a few minor conflicts. I dealt with the situation by talking with the other user(s) and coming to a mutual agreement on what would happen next. In the future, I would not use my administrator rights to get an advantage over the other users or to block them in an edit conflict.
- Additional question from decltype
- 4. You claim to have good knowledge of deletion policy, particularly CSD, yet you do not seem to have tagged more than a single page (one you created) for speedy deletion. Can you provide any other evidence that you are indeed competent in this area?
- A: A few of the pages which I have created have been speedy deleted and at that point I thought I would investigate speedy deletion. I started to learn the criteria for speedy deletion.
- Additional question from Xymmax
- 5. You indicated that AfD would be an area in which you'd participate as an administrator. Can you shed some light on what was going on here?
- A I apologize for this but it must have been a mistake on my behalf. Had I known, I would have rectified this error. Possibly, when using Huggle to revert vandalism, I reverted an edit by mistake. Apologies.

Support
- Okay, I think a support here, but I have a horrible feeling WP:EDITCOUNT is going to spoil this RFA for you. I've a few concerns (some of your AFD comments seem fairly limited IMHO) but on the positive no blocks, good article writing, AIV reports look good, nothing worrying on your talk (although the lack of substantial talk page intreraction other than vandal warning is also a mild concern). Still, no glaring reason to oppose. Oh, and you've adopted a great style for presenting your RFA *smiles*. Good luck. Pedro : Chat 12:39, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Support; nothing terribly concerning, won't blow up the wiki with the bit. –Juliancolton | Talk 14:52, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose
- Regretful Oppose. You seem like a good guy but I don't think you are quite ready for adminship. I would like to see more activity in AFD and CSD, as that is an area that you state you wish to participate in. Thanks anyway.--Gordonrox24 | Talk 14:10, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose. I don't think your ready yet. Try again once you gain more experience in the areas that you wish to help with. Frehley 14:30, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose per May creation of unsourced Upcoming River City Characters. You removed the PROD with a note that you were only using information from the official River City website, but never even linked to the main page, never mind one showing the info you added. This doesn't encourage me that you have as firm an understanding of policy as you claim above -- and you only claim understanding of policies which are actually enforced, anyhow. Add the conflict between good spelling and the typo "neear", and this definitely comes out as WP:NOTNOW for me.--SarekOfVulcan (talk) 14:44, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- (ec with BSimmons)Go through the Admin coaching process, per the request you added today, and we'll see about next time.
- Oppose per SarekOfVulcan, Xymmax. Bsimmons666 (talk) 14:46, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose: I'm sorry, but your CSD answer does not show enough experience to me. CSD is a tricky area; it looks simple, but it takes a lot of learning. Gonzonoir (talk) 16:05, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose Per SarekofVulcan, lack of AfD work and answer to CSD question. Maybe next time.--Giants27 (c|s) 16:18, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose per SarekofVulcan. Your removal of the PROD and the answer to the CSD question is kind of troubling for an admin candidate -- you seem like a nice guy, but I just can't support right now. -- Nomader (Talk) 16:36, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Nomander, bear in mind that it wasn't the removal of the PROD I objected to, since article creators can do that, unlike with CSD nominations. It was the lack of follow-through that troubled me.--SarekOfVulcan (talk) 17:12, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose - Per lack of even minimal experience in the project space and total non-answers to questions four and five, which simply do not inspire confidence. Wisdom89 (T / C) 16:38, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose per SarekofVulcan. Please try again later .Good Luck.Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 16:44, 6 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
