1989 is the fifth studio album by the American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, released on October 27, 2014. The album's synth-pop production marks a departure from Swift's previous country pop sound. Selling over 14 million copies worldwide, it spent 11 weeks atop the US Billboard 200 and was certified platinum in countries across Europe, the Americas, and Asia–Pacific. Five of its singles reached the top 10 on the US Billboard Hot 100, with three peaking at number one: "Shake It Off", "Blank Space", and "Bad Blood".
