What is this place?
This is a gathering place for WikiDragons and WikiOtters. WikiDragons are good at large edits, and WikiOtters are good at helping other editors on odd jobs. These two WikiFauna are so complementary we couldn't resist the opportunity to see what good could come from their collaborations.
This is also a sort of meeting place, where we share what's going on, what our latest projects are, etc.
Census
Sign your name below to let the community know you exist!
We try to keep tabs on how many there are currently. Please let us know you're still an active WikiDragon or WikiOtter by participating in the annual census.
Mattdaviesfsic (talk) 19:15, 27 April 2023 (UTC) - had to be done at some point...
--Licks-rocks (talk) 21:16, 6 May 2023 (UTC) I can usually be found laying about in my cave, but I occasionally venture outside to snack on some unlucky bandits that enter the nearby shaded woods
On July 2, 2021, there were at least 247 WikiDragons in the wild. 19 new WikiDragons were tagged. 1 death among the new generation was discovered. Tags have been improved as a false WikiDragon was in the census. The population growth of this species has gotten slower recently.
On July 2, 2021, there were an estimated 8 WikiOtters in the wild. 11 new specimens were tagged; 0 previous specimens were tagged. The species is at risk of being Extinct soon as WikiOtters become dead or only semi-active. WikiOtters with the traits of a WikiGoose are increasingly common, a threat to the species though the population has increased from the last census.
Melilac(talk) 0:54, 28 August 2016 (UTC) - I guess that is what I am. & matches of 6, though no battle scars and for some years already WikiKnights tend to offer awards and avoid fight....
On 31 December 2013, there were an estimated 240 WikiDragons in the wild. A total of 14 WikiDragons were tagged, including 10 new WikiDragons and 1 previously thought dead. As such, the previous population is now believed to have been around 192 due to the knowledge that the WikiDragon may become dormant for as long as 32 months before becoming active once again. Population has grown 25%. The species can no longer be considered Critically Endangered and has been reevaluated by the Department of Fun as Endangered using the IUCN 3.1 guidelines.
On 31 December 2013, there were an estimated 3 WikiOtters in the wild. 3 new specimens were tagged; 0 previous specimens were tagged. It has thus been confirmed that the WikiOtter is not in fact extinct. The species can no longer be considered Possibly Extinct and has been reevaluated by the Department of Fun as Critically Endangered using the IUCN 3.1 guidelines.
On 31 December 2012, there were an estimated 120 WikiDragons in the wild. A total of 9 WikiDragons were tagged, including 4 new WikiDragons and 1 previously thought dead. Population incline is 20%. The species has been reevaluated by the Department of Fun as Critically Endangered using the IUCN 3.1 guidelines.
On 31 December 2012, there were an estimated 2 WikiOtters in the wild. 2 specimens were tagged, including one previously thought to be dead, suggesting a period of hibernation during the winter months. It has thus been confirmed that the WikiOtter is not in fact extinct. The species has been reevaluated by the Department of Fun as Critically Endangered using the IUCN 3.1 guidelines.
On 31 December 2011, there were an estimated 96 WikiDragons in the wild. A total of 6 WikiDragons were tagged, including 3 new WikiDragons. 4 WikiDragons expected to exit dormancy cycles failed to do so, suggesting perhaps a fatally warm winter for brumating WikiDragons in the northern hemisphere. Population decline is 7%. The species has been reevaluated by the Department of Fun as Critically Endangered using the IUCN 3.1 guidelines.
31 December 2011, there was an estimated 1 WikiOtter in the wild. No specimens were tagged, and due to the short lifespan, the WikiOtter may be extinct. The species has been reevaluated by the Department of Fun as Critically Endangered (Possibly Extinct) using the IUCN 3.1 guidelines.

WikiOtters
Previous
January through June, 2011
On 30 June 2011, there were an estimated 103 WikiDragons in the wild. A total of 11 WikiDragons were tagged, including 7 new WikiDragons. Theories of hibernation or brumation appear to have been correct. Population increase is 71%. The species has been reevaluated by the Department of Fun as Critically Endangered using the IUCN 3.1 guidelines.
On 30 June 2011, there were an estimated 5 WikiOtters in the wild. The only tagged specimen was different from the one found last season. Short lifespan of WikiOtters has been confirmed; hibernation does not appear to come into play in this species. The species has been reevaluated by the Department of Fun as Critically Endangered using the IUCN 3.1 guidelines.
On 31 December 2010, there were an estimated 73 WikiDragons in the wild. A total of 4 WikiDragons were tagged. No new WikDragons were identified. This may indicate a seasonal lifestyle or may be the result of a reduction in offspring. One WikiDragon missed in the previous tagging was identified, upping the estimation from the early half of the year to 146 WikiDragons. Hibernation may account for this. Assuming hibernation is common, an additional 8 WikiDragons can be added to the expected 65, bringing the current population estimate to 73. This is a drastic reduction from the previous census. The species has been reevaluated by the Department of Fun as Critically Endangered using the IUCN 3.1 guidelines.
On 31 December 2010, there were an estimated 5 WikiOtters in the wild. The results are only mildly surprising, however, since they match the results from this season last year. WikiOtters are likely less active during the second half of the year, possibly due to breeding season occurring during the spring and early summer. No previously known specimens were relocated this time, however, a single new specimen was tagged. The disappearance of all tagged specimens may be the result of a short lifespan. The species has been reevaluated by the Department of Fun as Critically Endangered using the IUCN 3.1 guidelines.
Jakkinx (talk) 19:08, 21 October 2009 (UTC)- Hey, I'm a bit new to Wikipedia, and I'm trying to make a character list for AdventureQuest Worlds, an online flash MMO by Artix Entertainment. You can find the details on my User Page.

112 WikiDragons were counted in the wild. A WikiOtter census was not taken. Future censuses will be done via registration and some quick math.
Current Projects

From Google: "What happens when a ProtestantFundamentalist becomes a Roman Catholic? Share one woman's journey into the land of mystic and scholar, and learn Catholicism from a Bible perspective using the King James 1611 Bible. Employing humanity, humor and wit, this marriage of creative and analytical writing is also the fruition of four years of research, 80 sources, 190 Biblical passages, and the efforts of three theologians, each with a Master's Degree in Divinity. Readers experience Catholicism through songs, prayers, poetry, and descriptions of celebrations as well as face the bigotry and malice often directed at Catholics. A Faraway Ancient Country offers an intimate look at faith and challenges spiritual growth."
I think that Billy Mays should be included into the "Deaths" section for 2009, but the policy says his article has to be in at least ten languages, so I'm looking for translators.
Languages – Each language links to the article in that language..

I have asked for a deletion review of File:JR Fun Big.gif. It was deleted because it's "not useful in an encyclopedia", so that destroyed the template I made for my userpage. The guy never told me his concerns, so I was unable to resolve the issue he had with the tag. This free image was also never orphaned, and deleted in less than a week after being put up for deletion. I got it undeleted, but still no one expressed their concerns on the image's discusion page. Then the out of policy deletion was used to speedily deleted it, even though it did not fulfill the requirements of Image is being redundant, corrupt, or not an image. --MahaPanta (talk) 00:13, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
Wow. I've had image problems before-- it drives me crazy. Can you post a link pointing to the source image? I might be able to help you out. Bob the Wikipedian(talk • contribs) 01:09, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
The source image was here. The image was submitted as public domain with the only condition being that people downloaded it and rehost it instead of hotlinking it, a lot of people linked to the origional instead of saving their own copy, so the owner took it down to save bandwidth, but once an image becomes public domain, it is always public domain and free to use. It was an image of a cat dancing, and I used it in a template to let people know I like to have fun on my userpage. --MahaPanta (talk) 12:48, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
Hmm. Looks like an admin was a bit trigger-happy... Let's hope your email comes back to you with permission. I had a similar incident earlier this month regarding a paleobiome illustration and its legend, which you may read about here. However, I was hasty to respond to the discussion, so the files were not deleted immediately. Rather, I got an extension by explaining I was emailing the NPS. The email response contained the permission I needed, which I posted in the deletion discussion and forwarded to the OTRS. Today those files still exist. On to check every so often. Still consumed by the job and but back for more mirth!
Major TO DO's
Boyle's law - Complete rewrite of the page as its bloody awful. Far too much conjecture and the history is just shocking!! Requires addition of a lot more actual science and replacement of the historic nonsense with referenced facts.
I've been slowly working to re-write all the lemur articles, including some of the largest, most inclusive articles. Lemur is done, as well as Lemur evolutionary history and Subfossil lemur, but several other planned subpages are still on the drawing board. I also have a ton of smaller species articles to write, as well as numerous large articles about families and genera. You can follow my progress from my user page or from my topic planned list. – VisionHolder « talk » 18:52, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
I'm working on a range of articles to prevent Earth's most important archaeological site (known as Kharsag in the Barton Cylinder or the Garden of Eden in the Bible, Book of Jubilees and 2 Enoch) from being destroyed by urbanization of Kfar Qouq, near Rashaya, Lebanon. This includes archaeologists, paleo-botanists, archaeological sites nearby, museums and research bodies, ancient proto-pottery and pottery, arrowheads, megaliths, stone circles and anything showing the neolithic revolution started in the Rashaya South Basin in the Beqaa Valley. Any help to stop the destruction of this site will be assisting mankind re-discover the origins of our civilization and hopefully safeguard it's future. Paul Bedson ❉talk❉ 19:30, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
I'm trying to get most extinct Mascarene birds up to FA or GA status. The best known ones are done, a lot of obscure ones are waiting. I really hate keeping citations consistent, so I'm happy when WikiOtters drop by. FunkMonk (talk) 13:07, 4 August 2013 (UTC)
Got bored and was poking around in the cave so to speak, so I worked on the Pirates of the Caribbean Online page that Barkjon (talk· contribs) was working on earlier, added lots of subheadings and "see also" section. Any more dragons adding oodles of text who'd like someone to handle superficial cleanup, send it my way, I like stuff like that. Sloggerbum (talk) 02:58, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
also, how on earth am I the only one? I know Ten Pound Hammer is out there somewhere, but I'm starting to feel like I'm stuck in that last unicorn movie. Not a good thing - I still have irl nightmares about that big red ox thing. Sloggerbum (talk) 19:35, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
Ha, now I want to watch that again...it's been a couple decades! Bob the WikipediaN(talk • contribs) 04:52, 28 March 2012 (UTC)
Trying to make all quality articles on Cosmophasis species, but soon (almost) gave up due to procrastination. Anyone willing to help? Leomk0403 (Don't shout here, Shout here!) 04:38, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
