Talk:Truist Park

SunTrust Park

Ab editor has made a series of changes regarding the old name of the park, SunTrust Park. One was made in the lead, they also changed the image of the park to an outside of the park shot featuring the logo, and then added the logo. These are all unnecessary, but if people disagree by all means included it. I've rolled this back to the status quo until there's support for the changes. Thanks!. Nemov (talk) 15:18, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree with you Nemov on this. Even if stadiums have new names, former logos should be kept for history. Abhiramakella (talk) 15:19, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Instead of finding consensus for the change Abhiramakella has gone ahead and made the change again without any support. Nemov (talk) 16:17, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Abhiramakella are you just going to ignore this process and force your change? Please revert and find consensus. Nemov (talk) 18:47, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"Stable version" of the second sentence

The second sentence, for over a year, said "it is the ballpark of...". As this phrase sounded quite odd, I changed it to "It is the home field of..." Nemov seems to have a problem with this and changed it to "it is the home ballpark of..." and claimed that is what it said for the last three years. A quick look at the history demonstrates this is incorrect; however, I will AGF and allow that Nemov looked only at a version from 3 years ago, not 1 year ago. Regardless, his edit summary to me saying "You should get out more" took me by surprise as an attack, and I wish he would strike that and apologize. Fred Zepelin (talk) 00:01, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You've brought up the alleged WP:NPA at my talk. So I'll set that aside since it's baseless. "Home ballpark" is widely used term in baseball to refer to a home baseball stadium. I'm not sure why "home' was removed, but I restored it and you've forced your edit in again after being questioned about it. I would ask you to restore the status quo until you have support for your change which is basic Wiki policy. Nemov (talk) 00:07, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For some context, please look at this collection of edits. The same user went through all of the MLB stadium articles and made unilateral changes to the second sentence. In most cases, I was simply reverting to the state that they were all in before that mass change, and I'll grant that in making a standard edit, Truist Park's second sentence now says "home field" instead of whatever was there before. I don't think "home field" is inaccurate and it's probably the most common way of stating that the Braves play their home games there. Fred Zepelin (talk) 00:09, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Looking through those edits some of the articles were called baseball stadiums[1] or home ballparks[2]. You've making unilateral edits as well, but this article ballpark was used. "Home ballpark" was how it's been described for most of this article's existence. You're not solving a problem here or making an improvement. Nemov (talk) 00:18, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would be quite surprised if 'home field' was the most common phraseology. I've never really thought about it much before, but now that I am thinking about it, 'home field' feels much more like a football term with 'ballpark' serving as baseball's counterpart. LEPRICAVARK (talk) 03:15, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think "home ballpark" is a bit redundant... "the ballpark of the Atlanta Braves" works just fine.. if it is their ballpark of course it is the home one.. "home field" just feels wrong also... people rarely refer to baseball stadiums as "fields". Spanneraol (talk) 15:09, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't object to that change, it's probably why no one really objected when "home" was removed a few months ago. I've updated the article. Nemov (talk) 15:12, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. "Home ballpark" is redundant and "home field" is not baseball parlance. LEPRICAVARK (talk) 02:32, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox maps

@Noctawny and Nemov: Will you consider discussing your differences here before continuing? -- Pemilligan (talk) 20:25, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I decided to do the pushpin maps instead of OpenStreetMap. This guy didn't want both as it unnecessarily clutters up the infoboxes. I agreed with him. I removed all OpenStreetMaps from the stadium pages that I have edited. Case closed. Have a good day! Noctawny (talk) 20:30, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Pemilligan This is already settled, but thanks. Nemov (talk) 20:56, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Good article nomination

@Paytonisboss I've pulled down your Good Article nomination. You should let someone more experienced move forward with this and frankly with your review of the Atlanta Braves article. I spent a lot of time getting that article ready and you've made a mess out of it. Nemov (talk) 13:24, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

honestly i agree i saw that its been up there for like ever and honestly now that i tried to do it, maybe just maybe someone will notice the article deserves to be promoted, and by the way it kinda sucks we lost to the padres this year. Thanks!- Paytonisboss (talk) 14:40, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
but i will still review the Atlanta Braves GA nomination and give my honest opinion i noticed i rushed it and ima do a full review and do my best. Thanks!- Paytonisboss (talk) 14:42, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Nemov: Okay, I put this one at the top of my list so we can try and knock this out before July 21, but no worries if you need more time to respond. I have my comments below with the suggested changes in bullet points. -Riley1012 (talk) 20:44, 17 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Note: this represents where the article stands relative to the Good Article criteria. Criteria marked are unassessed

1. Well-written

  • There are in-line citations in the lead that are redundant with what is in the body. Per MOS:LEADCITE I would suggest taking most of these out since the information cited isn't controversial or likely to be challenged.
  • Previously named SunTrust Park, the ballpark was renamed after SunTrust Bank became Truist Financial in 2020. This sentence is unclear to me, could it be rewritten to something like Previously named SunTrust Park, after SunTrust Bank, the ballpark was renamed after Truist Financial in 2020.
  • There are multiple sentences in the "Leaving Turner Field", "Planning", "Construction", and "Configuration" sections that talk about things in the future tense that presumably have already happened because the park is open now (ex: Although the new stadium will be over 10 miles (16 km) from the nearest train station... and The underground level will have a few hundred parking spaces for players, team doctors, clubhouse staff and management staff.). Please look through these sections and make sure they are written in the correct tense.
  • Also applicable to this sentence: A video screen plays an Aaron biography. Other statues will be placed throughout the stadium.

2. Verifiable

  • There is a citation needed tag on the record attendance parameter of the infobox. Please provide a source for this or remove.
  • The public transit parameter in the infobox needs citation(s) since this is not discussed in the article body.
  • The use of Scribd for citation 3 is a generally unreliable source since it's a self-published by someone we cannot verify. Is there a way to cite this information somewhere else or just cite to the media guide without this link?
  • Citation 67 needs more information including website, access date, etc.
  • The tweet in citation 85 seems to be deleted. Is there an archived version you can link? I need to see it to verify it's a tweet from Chip Caray per WP:RSPTWITTER
  • Can you add a citation to this table footnote There were no fans allowed in any MLB stadium in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. (I know this is true, but it still needs a citation ;) )
  • Earwig's highlights a close resemblance to citation 51. Please rewrite this section. I'd also encourage you to compare some of the other results for sentences in the article that may have been copied from the sources.
  • Same for this result highlighting three sentences that too closely copy citation 39
  • I will conduct a closer spot check once these initial issues have been addressed.
Okay, here is the spot check: 4, 14, 20, 37, 47, 60 and 77 are all good. -Riley1012 (talk) 16:01, 19 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

3. Broad
This article thoroughly addresses the major aspects of Truist Park without going into unnecessary detail.

4. Neutral
The article, specifically the "Leaving Turner Field" and the "Public reaction" sections, is neutral in its coverage.

5. Stable
I've reviewed the talk page and the article history to verify there are no ongoing content disputes.

6. Illustrated
The images included are tagged with their copyright statuses

  • In terms of the captions, clarify in the older pictures that SunTrust Park is the old name (i.e. "Then–SunTrust Park..."), especially for the images that show the former name in them.
  • And on that note, is there a newer image that could be used in the infobox?
