XChat is an IRC client, licensed under the GPL. It runs on Unix-like operating systems, as well as Microsoft Windows and Mac OS. Both command line and graphical versions are available, although use of the graphical version far outstrips use of the command line version.
Like other popular IRC clients, XChat has both a scripting interface (Perl, Python) and a binary module interface (usually C). It has a tabbed interface, support for multiple servers, and a high level of configurability.
XChat is the most popular graphical IRC client for Unix-like operating systems, and is currently at version 2.0.8. Binaries (and source code) are available on the XChat site for Linux and Windows, while the Fink project provides a precompiled version for Mac OS.
