Ronnda Yvonne Cadle (born May 15, 1969) is an American guitarist and composer who lives on Camano Island, WA.
Early Years
Cadle was born in Baltimore, Maryland. She grew up in the Baltimore metro area and discovered the guitar at a young age, beginning an extensive period of self instruction.[1]
In the early 90s, she settled in Columbus, OH, where she immersed herself in the acoustic music scene. For decades, she worked as a forklift operator and warehouse worker by day, while practicing guitar and playing shows at night.[2] In 1996, she moved to Decatur, GA.[3]
Music Career
In the early-mid 2000s, she backed up singer-songwriter (and American Music Award winner) Moe Loughran[4] on her 2003 European tour, and opened for Sarah Bettens, Al Petteway & Amy White, and Patty Larkin.[5]
She released her first solo album The River Runs in 2006.[6] Ronnda’s music was featured on the syndicated radio show Echoes[7] and PBS television program and online site Roadtrip Nation.[8] In 2007, she gathered longtime Atlanta musicians Sherry Iles (bass), Jordan Marshall (percussion), and Carol Statella (viola) to form Ronnda Cadle & The String Poets.[9] The same year they released After, created in collaboration with GRAMMY-winning producer Don McCollister[10] and composed in honor of her friend and mentor Joyce Tree.[3] Their performances included shows in Decatur, GA, and Savannah, GA.[3] She moved to Camano Island, WA in 2008.
During her first residency in the Pacific Northwest, she began to correspond with William Ackerman — prolific composer, guitarist, founder of Windham Hill Records, and producer at Imaginary Road Studios in Vermont.[11] They began to collaborate regarding her next album. With Ackerman and Corin Nelson as producer, she recorded and released Will’s Embrace in 2012.[12] Ackerman was a featured performer during the album release celebration at Eddie’s Attic in Decatur, GA.[13]
She resettled in the North Georgia mountains in 2013, and returned to the Seattle metro area in 2015. While in Seattle, she met violinist/violist Sunnie Larsen and cellist Betsy Tinney, playing in varied combinations and settings.[14]
She returned to Camano Island in 2024, where she continues to perform[15] and tend her home.
Her works are included in two Imaginary Road/West River Records compilations.[16]
