Jolynn Joelle Chin (born December 25, 1995), known professionally as Jolynn J Chin, is a Malaysian pianist, composer, and producer. Her work incorporates classical, jazz, and contemporary music elements. Her 2019 debut EP, Beyond Classical, was submitted for consideration at the 62nd Grammy Awards. She has performed at international music festivals and released multiple independent recordings.

Early Life

Jolynn J Chin was born in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. She began piano lessons at the age of five and later completed the ABRSM graded piano exams. She earned an ATCL Recital Diploma[1] and studied with Malaysian pianist Dr. Nicholas Ong, Juilliard graduate[2] Andrew Brownell, and pianist Li Ming Qiang[3].

Career

Early Performances

Jolynn's early performances included appearances on Malaysian television and participation in local music events. She performed at the Kuching Waterfront Jazz Festival (2017 and 2018)and at the Blue Note Lounge, a jazz concert organized by REDfm English RTM Sarawak.

Beyond Classical and Grammy Consideration (2019)

In 2019, Jolynn released her debut EP, Beyond Classical, which combined classical piano with jazz and electronic elements. The EP was submitted for Grammy consideration in the Best Contemporary Instrumental Album category.[4]

America’s Got Talent (2021)

In 2021, Jolynn auditioned for Season 16 of America’s Got Talent., While her performance was not aired on television, her participation was covered by Malaysian media, including The Borneo Post[5] and New Straits Times[6].

Professional Representation

In July 2021, Jolynn was represented by Atomic Music Group, booking agency[7]. She later transitioned to an independent career and founded her own label, Yellow Gold Records.

2024: Abbey Road Studios and Off Time Album

In 2024, Jolynn released her album Off Time, which includes a title track mastered at Abbey Road Studios. The album features a Dolby Atmos mix engineered by Roger Montejano, and mastered by Oli Morgan.[4]
