Carsten Cramer (born December 23, 1968 in Münster) is a German football executive. He has been managing director of the football club Borussia Dortmund (BVB) since 2018, overseeing sales, marketing, internationalization and digitalization. Cramer is also supervisory board member of Bundesliga International GmbH.[1][2]

Life and career

Cramer grew up in Münster and, after leaving school, did his community service in a “social hotspot”, where he founded a football club and noticed that "football is capable of being integrative".[3] He studied law and ran a sports shop to finance his studies. Cramer then worked as a stadium announcer and press spokesman, and later as a marketing manager in various professional sports clubs and an international sports agency.[4][5]

In October 2010, Cramer became Director of Sales and Marketing at Borussia Dortmund. His field of responsibility expanded to include the clubs digitization and internationalization.[6][1] He was appointed to the supervisory board member of Bundesliga International GmbH, founded in 2017.[7]

In March 2018, Cramer became managing directors of Borussia Dortmund, together with Hans-Joachim Watzke and Thomas Treß.[8] He and Treß are also joint managing directors of the clubs “leuchte auf” foundation.[1] Cramer usually accompanies and represents Borussia Dortmund on trips abroad, especially in Asia and the USA.[9][10][11]

Personal

Cramer is a father of four and lives with his family in Münster.[12]
