Heir presumptive
Why is Prince Rahim referred to as the heir presumptive? As the oldest son, wouldn't he be the heir apparent to the Imam? Does anyone know? 66.82.9.61 08:23, 20 December 2006 (UTC) Brian
- It is the prerogative of the present Imam to appoint his successor from amongst any of his male descendents. To date, he has not made his choice public; therefore, none of his children can be designated heir apparent. Cimm[talk] 16:07, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

How do we add the tenure length on the royal infobox template without disrupting the format and causing tje tenure section of the infobox to be hidden? JordanJa🎮es92🐱9 01:01, 11 February 2025 (UTC)
Proposal to retain “Prince Rahim al-Hussaini Aga Khan V” in the lead
Herewith I want to propose that the lead retain the full name “Prince Rahim al-Hussaini Aga Khan V” and that the Infobox remain the honorific-prefix “His Highness”, both of which are consistently used in reliable and authoritative sources:
- the official Ismaili community website: [1]
- the Aga Khan's Development Network website (AKDN): [2]
- the official (!) government London Gazette (although regarding his father, but also here applicable): [3]
- the British Royal Family’s website (!): [4]
- many international English-language media outlets: BBC: [5], The Independent: [6], The Guardian: [7], Financial Times: [8], CBC: [9], CNN: [10], Arab News: [11], etc. etc.
These sources consistently refer to him as “Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan (V)”. This is not a self-styled honorific but one used in formal communications and recognized across official and journalistic platforms. The titles Prince and Princess are in use by the Aga Khan family by centuries through descent from Fath Ali Shah of the Persian Qajar dynasty, and are officially recognized by the British and other international governments. The style “His Highness” was granted to Aga Khan V by King Charles III on 10 February 2025, continuing a tradition of Crown bestowal dating back to 1887. The title “Prince” is honorific and dynastic, not political (no claim of monarchical standing). It functions like “His Holiness” or “Imam,” reflecting religious and hereditary status—not sovereignty. Wikipedia routinely includes such titles when supported by reliable sources, as affirmed by Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Biography, which allows honorifics if they are widely used in reliable sources.
Per WP:COMMONNAME and WP:RS, this usage is accurate and appropriate. Lastly, I ask editors to avoid personal remarks such as calling these edits “indecorous,” which violates WP:CIVIL. These edits are grounded in policy and verifiable evidence.
