The attribution to Lely has been confirmed by Diana Dethloff in a private communication to the previous owners, which is dated August 24, 2005, and will be included in the forthcoming Catalogue Raisonné of the Paintings of Sir Peter Lely, by the late Sir Oliver Millar, Diana Dethloff, and Catherine MacLeod, to be published by the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art.
