Summary

Description
English: Galashiels War Memorial. The War Memorial is situated at the northwest end of the Burgh Chambers with the bronze figure of a mounted Border reiver taking pride of place. The equestrian statue was sculpted by Thomas J Clapperton, a native of Galashiels. The names of those who fell in the First World War are inscribed on a bronze tablet with the figure of peace above, carved by David Sutherland, a Galashiels sculptor. Two other bronze panels for those who fell in World War Two were added in 1947. (Source: Galashiels, A Modern History). For a full view of this side of the Burgh Chambers with clock tower, see 482842.
