Plavnica (Hungarian: Palonca Rusyn: Плавніця) is a village and municipality in Stará Ľubovňa District in the Prešov Region of northern Slovakia.

In historical records the village was first mentioned in 1325. Before the establishment of independent Czechoslovakia in 1918, Plavnica was part of Sáros County within the Kingdom of Hungary. From 1939 to 1945, it was part of the Slovak Republic. On 23 January 1945, the Red Army dislodged the Wehrmacht from Plavnica and it was once again part of Czechoslovakia.

The municipality lies at an altitude of 515 metres (1,690 ft)^[3] and covers an area of 19.60 km² (7.57 sq mi) (2024).^[4]

It has a population of 1663 people (31 December 2024).^[6]

In year 2021 was 1637 people by ethnicity 1580 as Slovak, 63 as Rusyn, 56 as Not found out, 8 as Czech, 4 as Ukrainian, 3 as Polish, 1 as Italian and 1 as German.

In year 2021 was 1637 people by religion 1409 from Roman Catholic Church, 114 from Greek Catholic Church, 39 from None, 37 from Not found out, 22 from Evangelical Church, 8 from Eastern Orthodox Church, 3 from Calvinist Church, 2 from Ad hoc movements, 1 from Paganism and natural spirituality, 1 from Islam and 1 from Apostolic Church.
