Welcome to Wikipedia!!!

Unreferenced article

Hi, There is an unreferenced article in the english wikipedia by the name Leme panoramic camera, It has another article in the portugese wikipedia, That one has 3 references, but the first one which is

https://fotograf360.weebly.com/histoacuteria.html

Claims that the first 360-degree camera and photograph was created by a Brazilian person called Sebastião Carvalho Leme in 1957.

But John Connon’s panoramic camera was the first camera to record 360 degrees according to this source in 1887

https://microsites.lomography.com/spinner-360/history/#:~:text=Via%20archives.gov.on.,panoramic%20cameras%20hitting%20the%20market.

The second source given in the portugese wikipedia is the same first reference under a different name

And I can't access the the third reference, it is saying its not secure.

Anyways, what do you think? Codonified (talk) 03:15, 24 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know too much about cameras, but the referencing is not great. The weebly site looks like user-generated content. It sounds like the 1957 invention was some kind of mild innovation, but I don't see reliable sources talking about it, and it might not meet the standards for Wikipedia notability. I have taken it to Afd. Codonified (talk) 06:15, 25 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Guide to temporary accounts

Hello, Russ Woodroofe. This message is being sent to remind you of significant upcoming changes regarding logged-out editing.

Starting 4 November, logged-out editors will no longer have their IP address publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account (TA) associated with their edits. Users with some extended rights like administrators and CheckUsers, as well as users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will still be able to reveal temporary users' IP addresses and all contributions made by temporary accounts from a specific IP address or range.

How do temporary accounts work?

Editing from a temporary account
  • When a logged-out user completes an edit or a logged action for the first time, a cookie will be set in this user's browser and a temporary account tied with this cookie will be automatically created for them. This account's name will follow the pattern: ~2025-12345-67 (a tilde, year of creation, a number split into units of 5).
  • All subsequent actions by the temporary account user will be attributed to this username. The cookie will expire 90 days after its creation. As long as it exists, all edits made from this device will be attributed to this temporary account. It will be the same account even if the IP address changes, unless the user clears their cookies or uses a different device or web browser.
  • A record of the IP address used at the time of each edit will be stored for 90 days after the edit. Users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will be able to see the underlying IP addresses.
  • As a measure against vandalism, there are two limitations on the creation of temporary accounts:
    • There has to be a minimum of 10 minutes between subsequent temporary account creations from the same IP (or /64 range in case of IPv6).
    • There can be a maximum of 6 temporary accounts created from an IP (or /64 range) within a period of 24 hours.

Temporary account IP viewer user right

How to enable IP Reveal
  • Administrators may grant the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right to non-administrators who meet the criteria for granting. Importantly, an editor must make an explicit request for the permission (e.g. at WP:PERM/TAIV)—administrators are not permitted to assign the right without a request.
  • Administrators will automatically be able to see temporary account IP information once they have accepted the Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy via Special:Preferences or via the onboarding dialog which comes up after temporary accounts are deployed.

Impact for administrators

  • It will be possible to block many abusers by just blocking their temporary accounts. A blocked person won't be able to create new temporary accounts quickly if the admin selects the autoblock option.
  • It will still be possible to block an IP address or IP range.
  • Temporary accounts will not be retroactively applied to contributions made before the deployment. On Special:Contributions, you will be able to see existing IP user contributions, but not new contributions made by temporary accounts on that IP address. Instead, you should use Special:IPContributions for this (see a video about IPContributions in a gallery below).

Rules about IP information disclosure

  • Publicizing an IP address gained through TAIV access is generally not allowed (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 previously edited as 192.0.2.1 or ~2025-12345-67's IP address is 192.0.2.1).
  • Publicly linking a TA to another TA is allowed if "reasonably believed to be necessary". (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 and ~2025-12345-68 are likely the same person, so I am counting their reverts together toward 3RR, but not Hey ~2025-12345-68, you did some good editing as ~2025-12345-67)
  • See Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer § What can and can't be said for more detailed guidelines.

Useful tools for patrollers

  • It is possible to view if a user has opted-in to view temporary account IPs via the User Info card, available in Preferences → Appearance → Advanced options → Tick Enable the user info card
    • This feature also makes it possible for anyone to see the approximate count of temporary accounts active on the same IP address range.
  • Special:IPContributions allows viewing all edits and temporary accounts connected to a specific IP address or IP range.
  • Similarly, Special:GlobalContributions supports global search for a given temporary account's activity.
  • The auto-reveal feature (see video below) allows users with the right permissions to automatically reveal all IP addresses for a limited time window.

restore the page

clearly, someone appears on Univision and the self proclaimed hispanic female editor is jealous, aka Revolving Doormat and removes the original page and tries to single handedly cancel Miss Gonzalez and her solo work... please don't be a part of this, restore the status quo

you don't even know her name and yet are willing to deny her her heritage Relativity77 (talk) 01:58, 8 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Concerning the Sabrina Pasterski article: I think you are talking about her name. Per WP:COMMONNAME establishes the name that we should use. As her notability appears to come mainly from her published articles, Pasterski is the main name we should use. A redirect is fine, per WP:REDIRECTSARECHEAP. I am aware of the Latin tradition of having two last name, and I removed the "American name" lastname tag, which I don't see support for in reliable sources. I will try to respond to your other comment below later. On another note, I will remark that Wikipedia's WP:COI rules are strict, and we also take WP:CIVIL seriously. I would suggest taking a deep breath and a short break from editing, and reading through this guideline and this policy again. Russ Woodroofe (talk) 03:27, 8 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
So long as Miss Gonzalez is able to work her magic at UCLA Wednesday, that is all that matters. Please lock the page until Friday morning your time. After that, let the chips fall where they may, Miss Gonzalez has had a Grokipedia page since day 0, one of only 2000 scientists included in version 0.1--Soon, with Twitch helping Tao helping AI, the actual truth will come out. It is amazing to look at RD and 1954's talk pages and see them point to some random article published only online and use that as the "truth" to contradict what a print magazine actually has within it or the Way Back Machine has archived.
Just curious: How was Scientific American 30 under 30 not considered an honor? Invitation to the White House? A US President sending her to Moscow on an official mission? A royal keynote in Europe? A two page spread with Mrs. Obama in Marie Claire? $8M in funding from Simons? A full page in the NYC Times section A? All deleted.
Math rules! (This Wednesday's Tao group meeting will be on Zoom around 8:30PM your time if you wanted to ask the speaker, Twitch's founder, Miss Gonzalez's last name.) Relativity77 (talk) 04:28, 8 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
>>As her notability appears to come mainly from her published articles, Pasterski is the main name we should use.<<
That statement is NOT true. At age 11, Transport Canada issued her medical certificate as Sabrina Gonzalez Pasterski. At age 13, Jeff Bezos referred to her as "Sabrina Gonzalez Pasterski" when he offered her a job in a signed letter. At 14, a news article about her first solo called her "Sabrina Gonzalez-Pasterski." Just because inspire hep would not let her upload her papers using her full name at age 20 on does not mean her notability came from the name Sabrina Pasterski. Your "appears" assumption is not borne out as correct when Google Trends is used from 2004-2025. Sabrina Pasterski is a flat line with ZERO notability from 2004 until 2015 whereas Sabrina Gonzalez Pasterski is notable from 2005 to 2015 and ALWAYS more notable for every country in the world from 2015 to 2025 as compared to Sabrina Pasterski. The fact that Sabrina Gonzalez Pasterski was the third most famous Google search term for female scientists in 2017 and Sabrina Pasterski was not is another indicator. You can't let a built in bias against hispanic naming built into an academic paper reporting system continue to bias against hispanics 45 years later. Relativity77 (talk) 07:23, 8 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have so much more to say. The subject publishes as Sabrina Pasterski, which is the main thing I am guided by (as she is notable as a physicist). The article should certainly use the fullest version of her name at WP:FIRSTMENTION. You can assemble reliable sources that use both names and post to the talk page. If so, I recommend that you do so briefly and as neutrally as you can manage. Wikipedia is WP:NOT a place for the subject to promote herself, or to promote a particular view of herself: it is WP:NOTPROMO, WP:NOTINDISCRIMINATE, etc. I wish all the best to Terry Tao (and to most academics), but Wikipedia should not make editing decisions so that someone gets a grant. Russ Woodroofe (talk) 11:56, 8 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Russ, you are a math guy...

read Revolving Doormat's talk page, esp the part about Terence Tao at UCLA

please don't let RD mess with Mr. Tao or Miss Gonzalez in the future as she has today so far Relativity77 (talk) 02:02, 8 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Mr Tao's funding was cut. He invited the billionaire founder of Twitch to talk at his group meeting Wednesday. Twitch's founder has apparently agreed to fund a Boston based physics-youtuber to tune of $30,000,000. At the request of a third party just last Friday, who will go unnamed, Miss Gonzalez will meet with both for dinner in LA and may well convince the founder the best path forward is to fund Terence Tao instead or for at least half. Miss Gonzalez already has $8,000,000 from Simons and knows Tao is a much better bet than a You-Tuber. Next time you meet Mr. Tao, ask him what Sabrina's last name is. No matter what, please freeze the wikipedia page as we restored it until Friday your time. I may have a conflict editing the Tao page, but not this page. Relativity77 (talk) 02:28, 8 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
For my future self, this is referring again to Sabrina Pasterski. I responded to this under the previous heading. Russ Woodroofe (talk) 11:57, 8 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
