What happened??
I wish that we could somehow determine why she retired so very young, in 1961, when she was about 26. Often this meant that someone either gets married to a man who doesn't want his wife to work (the typical take on American life in the 1950s, believe it or not, and it's hard to say which gender was manipulating the other the most about this if you think deeply about it). She'd already been married and had a daughter for quite a while by that juncture; it's a mystery that hangs over our Wikipedia article like a cloud once you read it, and I hope someone can find out the answer so that we can augment the article with that information. It can't merely be complete disaffection with show business because she continued to write about it after her shockingly early retirement. What happened?? - Her second child was a baby then. Maybe she felt she'd missed out on the early days with her daughter and didn't want to make the same mistake with her second child. She continued to work in the 60s and 70s, according to the article. Unless there was something else she was doing that simply isn't included in this article, it's very possible she simply wanted to be home with her children while they were young. It doesn't have to mean anyone was pressured into retiring or anything else negative. 2600:1700:BC01:9B0:7DA1:EE12:B9CD:EB4E (talk) 19:51, 3 August 2025 (UTC)
Found missing reference
What is now reference 17, a page at Turner Classic Movies, was missing. I found the page, which quotes Ms. Evans's parents who weren't invited to her wedding. But I don't know how to edit it, and I'm too lazy to look up how. Anyway, the article is now at https://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title/91270/the-star#articles-reviews?articleId=309211 96.255.212.50 (talk) 04:54, 24 April 2024 (UTC)
