The Special Operations Division (Mem-Mem) is a unit within the Intelligence Directorate of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). The division is responsible for planning and executing special operations that address complex intelligence and operational challenges faced by Israel.[1][2]
The division operates through a collaborative framework that integrates three main components:
- Intelligence gathering and analysis
- Advanced technological capabilities, primarily provided by Unit 81[3]
- Operational execution, carried out by elite units such as Sayeret Matkal[4]
Due to the classified nature of the division's activities, limited information has been officially published. However, media reports indicate that the division and its associated units have been involved in high-risk missions and have received multiple Israel Defense Prize awards, recognizing technological and operational achievements.[5]
The commander of the Special Operations Division holds the rank of Brigadier General and reports directly to the Head of the Military Intelligence Directorate.[6][7]
