The result of the discussion was: manual merge to Category:New religious movements. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 01:08, 25 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: For the same reason Category:Cult leaders was deleted earlier last year - how are we defining this? The definition as formerly used at the top of this category was "Articles relating to cults, social groups that are defined by their unusual religious, spiritual, or philosophical beliefs, or by their common interest in a particular personality, object, or goal". Who are we deciding that they are unusual - and if it is merely that, then this can have many more categories added to it. I personally would say most every religious group is decidedly unusual. But clearly this is not the actual definition used, since as MOS:CULT indicates cult has a very negative connotation beyond what we are saying. In lieu of a proper definition, as is this is a WP:SUBJECTIVECAT.
Furthermore, I don't even think this is a common definition, nor the one we use in the cult article - definitions now either focus on say, abusiveness or controllingness as the qualifying factor for a group being a cult, or are the older one where it is basically just new religious movement. What is in here now is a nonsensical mix of all of the above. There are some valid subcategories of this (works about cults, anti-cult movement) but as is this category is extremely duplicative of Category:New religious movements, and the ones that aren't have little in common and are thrown here with no rhyme or reason. If you look in this category, many of the listed articles don't even mention cults or why it's called a cult, some are BLPs, there is no rhyme or reason as to what is in this except they're weird and some are abusive. Several of the articles categorized here don't even have the word cult in the article. I'm not all in on this being deleted (especially since the subcategories), if someone has a solution as to what to do with this, but it needs to be settled on what goes in this category and what does not, or renamed. The definition used before is not actually what is in the category - so what is? PARAKANYAA (talk) 23:04, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
We should leave this and bring cult leaders back. Every religion has to go through the “cult” status until it either dissolves or is accepted. The vast majority of these are fringe groups with small memberships. Even the large and older ones like the Latter Day Saints are still small in size and hold ideas considered to be cultish by most world societies (becoming a god with your favorite wife and ruling over your own planet for eternity - a sacred core belief supported by the Twelve and given by Moroni). 170.52.189.195 (talk) 04:27, 23 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That is the old sociological definition, and is the exact same as what a new religious movement is. If we were to use that definition it would be an exact copy of the new religious movements category. In that case, we should delete it for being a duplicate. The result of the discussion was: merge. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 00:44, 25 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: merge, redundant category layer with only one subcategory in each of them. Marcocapelle (talk) 19:46, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge to Category:2034 in the United States. And delete Category:2034 in American sports. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 00:49, 25 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: merge, the subcategory is the only content of a gigantic tree under the first target. Marcocapelle (talk) 08:56, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: The content of these categories contain albums and songs by Tremonti (band). The name of the categories should reflect that. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 06:43, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 00:51, 25 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Most other links to this category in other languages say "by material" and not "by medium" as in "by form of mass media" that which this category is obviously not relating to sculptures by their kind of mass media (a medium) that which they appear in. The result of the discussion was: delete. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 00:44, 25 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Small category (only one entry) and non-defining intersection. Merge is not needed, as the singular entry is already in "Chechen people" categories and "surgeon" categories. ForsythiaJo (talk) 00:57, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
