Nicolás Fonseca (born 19 October 1998) is a professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Liga MX club León and the Uruguay national team.[1]

Club career

Before the second half of 2021–22, Fonseca signed for Uruguayan side River Plate (Montevideo).[2] In the first week of 2024, he signed for River Plate of Argentina.[3]

International career

Fonseca received his first call-up to the Uruguay national team in March 2024 for friendlies against Basque Country and Ivory Coast.[4] He made his debut on 23 March in a 1–1 draw against Basque Country.[5]

Personal life

Nicolás is the son of former Uruguay international Daniel Fonseca.[6] His brother Matías is also a footballer.[7]

On February 28, 2025, Fonseca was kidnapped in a van in Mexico and was freed a couple of hours later.[8]
