Article | |
Portion used |
one of nine images on the page and many more throughout the book, which comprises an insignificant portion of the nearly 400 page book. |
Low resolution? |
Yes |
Purpose of use |
It is used in the article Allan H. Stevenson, which focuses on the fact that Stevenson noted that watermarks are "twins"; that is paper moulds were standardly made in two counterparts with nearly identical watermarks, but with minor variations. This image, together with one of its twin, allows the reader to understand the minor differences between twin watermarks, which cannot be explained without an image of the watermarks. Also, the article discusses Stevenson's sense of humor in giving these watermarks silly names like Wideface or Squareface, which also cannot be appreciated without an actual image of the watermarks themselves. |
