Alex Shackell (born November 13, 2006) is an American swimmer and a member of United States team for the 2024 Summer Olympics.[2] Shackell qualified at the 2024 US Olympic Swimming Team Trials, where she placed sixth in the 200m freestyle, and second in the 200m butterfly. She won a silver medal in the relay for swimming in the preliminary heat, as the U.S. team finished second to Australia in the final. In her 200m butterfly race, she advanced through the preliminaries and semi-finals and finished sixth in the championship final. In the final race of the meet, the 4x100 medley relay, Shackell was tabbed to swim when the butterfly leg in the morning heats as the top two finishers in the women's 100 m butterfly race, Gretchen Walsh and Tori Huske, swam the butterfly and freestyle legs in the final. The gold medal performance by the U.S. women's team in the final clinched a gold medal for Shackell for her preliminary leg.

Personal life

Her brother, Aaron, has also qualified for the 2024 US Olympic team after placing first in the 400m freestyle.[3] Shackell's father, Nicholas, was also an Olympic swimmer, representing Great Britain at the 1996 Summer Olympics in the 100m freestyle.
