Fredriksten

Hey, I noticed you reverted my addition to the siege of Fredriksten page. Could you explain the reasoning for that? The source I used is a reprint and revised version of Liljegren's book. Both versions were peer-reviewed, and while I wouldn't consider it an academic source, it's been cited on the Charles XII page several times. I await your response, thanks. LocalF15 (talk) 15:26, 11 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Checking back on the revert, it was probably a bit too hasty. I checked the link now and it was published by Historiska Media which is reliable. For some reason it became "Books on Demand" (which is a self publisher, and thus I reverted per WP:RSSELF) when you did the citation automatically. My apologies. Feel free to revert but change the publisher to Historiska Media so no one else is confused. Gvssy (talk) 15:35, 11 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there Gvssy,

An article you created, and are the biggest contributor of, Siege of Stettin (1659), has been nominated for Good Article status by myself, and you are obviously invited to take part in the review process once a reviewer takes on the task. I nominated the article for Good Article status as I believe it to be of sufficient or near sufficient quality to attain such a status, and as nobody else had done so until that point. Keep an eye out for when it has begun its review process! I will leave a message here too once the review begins so you can choose whether or not you would like to help, but this is entirely optional of course.

Best regards, TheBestEditorInEngland (talk) 16:46, 16 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Honored to have someone submit it. I'll gladly help if necessary. Gvssy (talk) 17:20, 16 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Gvssy: I've seen by your edits on Siege of Stettin (1659) that you're aware the article is now being reviewed, and you've already cleared up one of the major issues, that being the detail surrounding the background of the war and the anti-Swedish coalition. I have tried to address most of the issues, but there were two more points I am unable to address due to lacking access to the sources and being illiterate in Swedish. I was hoping you would be able to help? To quote the GA review page, these are:

"*"Some sources claim that there was also a Polish force present during the siege,[10] though this is disputed by other sources"

This would probably fall foul of MOS:AWW, I would suggest naming the sources"

"*"along with some artillery personnel, 40 volunteers, and 100 armed peasants"

Who were the volunteers, burghers? Were the peasants also volunteers or pressed?"

Also, "*The sources are almost all offline and all in Swedish so I cannot verify them. Have you accessed any of them to confirm and/or checked if there are any English language sources that can be used to supplement the information (ref WP:NONENG)?

  • Why is Hildebrand, Bengt (1956) listed if he is not cited?"

Regarding the comment above, if you could leave a comment on the talk page for the GA review (Talk:Siege of Stettin (1659)/GA1) saying you have can verify and confirm that the sources support the information they are used to cite. If you have access to "Hildebrand, Bengt (1956)" could you add a few citations from it to the article so that the article isn't completely cited from non-English sources, as this would check off both of the points made in the comment above.

I will deal with the copyright for the paintings and engravings, and after that, the article should be ready to pass Good Article status! Congratulations on your work thus far!

Best regards, TheBestEditorInEngland (talk) 11:06, 27 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Of course. I'll try and address these issues, unfortunately I doubt there's an English source accessible online that discusses the siege as deeply as Kungl. Svea livgardes historia: 1632(1611)-1660, but I'll look around. Gvssy (talk) 11:28, 27 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@TheBestEditorInEngland After searching around I don't think there actually are any online English sources describing the siege, at least aside from "The siege happened and the besieging army withdrew". I did also remove the Hildebrand source 4 days ago since it didn't say anything except that Johann Faltzburg was present. The only English source describing it in general is von Essen and I haven't been able to find any ways to access it online. The "volunteers" mentioned in the article are also just described as "frivilliga borgare", so just 40 burghers who volunteered. Gvssy (talk) 14:38, 28 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Gvssy: Thank you for fixing those issues and for the help in your messages, I have made some more edits and have now responded to the GA nomination page and am waiting to hear back on if there is anything else left to address. Hopefully it should all be okay now! TheBestEditorInEngland (talk) 13:35, 30 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Great! Let me know if I can help with anything else once the reviewer responds. Gvssy (talk) 15:00, 30 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Luckily there wasn't anything else to add, it passed and is now a good article. happy new year and well done! TheBestEditorInEngland (talk) 03:25, 1 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I noticed you reverted my addition to the Ingrian War page. Could you explain the reasoning for that? Currently, the "province of Kexholm" links (after your reversal) the reader to the contemporary town of Priozersk, while the link I tried to add would take the reader to the historical county mentioned in the text. Andreas003 (talk) 12:18, 11 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted because the link you changed it to is for a province that was created in 1634 (per the article itself). AFAIK linking to the modern town is more proper. Gvssy (talk) 13:13, 11 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
