Propagande terroriste

Salut

Apokrif (talk) 19:40, 13 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on CryptoNight requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a recently created redirect from an implausible typo or misnomer, or other unlikely search term.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Black Mirror character redirects

Hi Apokrif! Thanks for creating character redirects such as Liam Monroe and Victoria Skillane. However, I noticed you undid my edit here. Can you explain why? — Bilorv (talk) 16:54, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You wrote that Liam Monroe goes to the same place as The Waldo Moment, which is wrong because the former is an anchored link. Apokrif (talk) 21:08, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I saw the anchor you added. But it's not an anchor to a section in a "List of characters" page, or even a paragraph (or sentence!) that's about Monroe. It's just a summary of the plot. This is a problem of MOS:EASTEREGG and MOS:DUPLINK: the link should match the reader's expectations ("I am being taken to content that describes who Monroe is") and not substantially duplicate an already-given link. — Bilorv (talk) 21:30, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
"the reader's expectations ("I am being taken to content that describes who Monroe is": that's what the anchored link does :-) It's not an Easter egg: clicking on that character's name brings you to the text about that character, so you don't have to scroll the whole Waldo article to find who Monroe is. Apokrif (talk) 21:45, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's not useful to have, as here, two links in the same row of a table, the first to the top paragraph of an article and the second to the second paragraph of the same article. I'm saying that it's an Easter egg because I did not expect to be taken to where the link points to. — Bilorv (talk) 11:16, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't get your point. Liam Monroe should be expected to bring the reader to text about Monroe. Apokrif (talk) 17:52, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Joseph Liebgott requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Joseph Liebgott. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

Hi Apokrif. Thank you for your work on TWINT. Another editor, Klbrain, has reviewed it as part of new pages patrol and left the following comment:

Creating a separate article from the long-standing redirect looks like a very helpful step. The recent translation from parts of the German article has also been helpful, and it does look like this is a viable page.

To reply, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Klbrain}}. (Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)

Invitation to participate in a research

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. • Op-ed: On the backrooms
An editor's reflection on social capital and their changing relationship with Wikipedia culture. by Tamzin

Please leave the Oversight policy alone

It's nice that you've decided (without discussion) to create a whole new category related to Oversight. Your personal preferences don't override longstanding community agreement on what categories this policy should be under. If you want, add your category. Don't remove other ones. Thanks. Risker (talk) 02:46, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't remove a relevant category again. See also WP:BOLD. Apokrif (talk) 02:48, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps you should go back and re-read WP:Be bold. It tells you not to be upset if your boldness is reverted. It tells you to be careful when dealing with policies. Often, these things have been worked out over a long period. Your category is on shaky ground, at best; it sounds like one that belongs in article namespace, not Wikipedia namespace. Risker (talk) 03:00, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
IIRC the use of the Wikipedia: prefix for category names is unfortunately not recommended (although I used this prefix on the French Wikipedia as I find it useful for the reason you mention). Feel free to rename the category to a clearer (meta-looking) name if possible! Apokrif (talk) 03:39, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was about to template you for being a disruptive editor until I realized you had tens of thousands of edits over decades. If I still had my tools I'd block you, and I think Risker is being generous for not doing so. Please stop. TonyBallioni (talk) 03:06, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Which disruption? Apokrif (talk) 03:40, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That would be the unexplained removal of categories on the page. Yes, you need to explain that when you are doing it. Risker (talk) 03:45, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I explained it: redundant with the categorization of a category the page is in. Apokrif (talk) 03:47, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, but it is NOT redundant, except for your own personal actions. Now, let's talk about Category:Wikipedia_oversighters. I'm going to ask that it be deleted. Because when you look at the list of users and select "oversighters", you get the current list, based on actual user permissions, instead of a category that requires constant maintenance. Not only that, but the maintained list of oversighters is over in the functionaries templates. It's a curated list already. You're making work for other people by creating these categories, and creating categories that are duplicates of information that is available in a better, completely up-to-date format elsewhere. Risker (talk) 03:52, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"category that requires constant maintenance": if that's what worries you, I don't intend to include each oversighter in the category I created. Perhaps you mixed

Category:Wikipedia oversighters up with Category:Wikipedia oversight? Apokrif (talk) 04:28, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Valid point. Poked around, the "oversighters" category (and its parallel, the "checkusers" category) were created before SUL, when they may have made sense, but they're of more harm than good today when they're not maintained. (I've put them both up for deletion.) Perhaps the non-personal pages may be useful in Category:Oversight. Risker (talk) 04:49, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Actually, Aprokrif, I think perhaps it would be best to rename the category you created to Category:English Wikipedia Oversight (note the capitalization of "Oversight" because the lower case isn't specific to the user permission). Do you have any objection? If that's good with you, then I'll move the few non-OS category members over to that category. Risker (talk) 05:03, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Karmelo Anthony requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, a question that should have been asked at the help or reference desks, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Guideline and policy news

  • Following a request for comment, a new speedy deletion criterion, G15, has been enacted. It applies to pages generated by a large language model (LLM) without human review.
  • Following a request for comment, there is a new policy outlining the granting of permissions to view the IP addresses of temporary accounts. Temporary account deployment on the English Wikipedia is currently scheduled for September 2025, and editors can request access to the permission ahead of time. Admins are encouraged to keep an eye on the request page; there will likely be a flood of editors requesting the permission when they realize they can no longer see IP addresses.

Technical news

  • Administrators can now restrict the "Add a Link" feature to newcomers. The "Add a Link" Structured Task helps new account holders get started with editing. Administrators can configure this setting in the Community Configuration page.

Arbitration

  • The arbitration case Indian military history has been closed.
    • South Asia (WP:CT/SA) is designated a contentious topic. The topic area is specifically defined as All pages related to the region of South Asia (India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal), broadly construed, including but not limited to history, politics, ethnicity, and social groups.
    • The contentious topic designations for Sri Lanka (SL) and India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan (IPA) are folded into this new contentious topic.
    • The community-authorized general sanctions regarding South Asian social groups (GS/CASTE) are rescinded and folded into this new contentious topic.
  • The arbitration case Article titles and capitalisation 2 has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case closed on 31 July.
  • The arbitration case Transgender healthcare and people has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case will close on 11 August.

Miscellaneous

  • Wikimania 2025 is happening in Nairobi, Kenya, and online from August 6 to August 9. This year marks 20 years of Wikimania. Interested users can join the online event. Registration for the virtual event is free and will remain open throughout Wikimania. You can register here now.

Arbitration

  • After a motion, arbitration enforcement page protections no longer need to be logged in the AELOG. A bot now automatically posts protections at WP:AELOG/P. To facilitate this bot, protection summaries must include a link to the relevant CT page (e.g. [[WP:CT/BLP]]), and you will receive talk page reminders if you forget to specify the contentious topic but otherwise indicate it is an AE action.

Nomination of Ellen Stein for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Ellen Stein is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ellen Stein until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

ArbCom 2025 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2025 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 1 December 2025. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2025 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:20, 18 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Arbitration

  • Due to the result of a recent motion, a rough consensus of administrators at the arbitration enforcement noticeboard may impose an expanded topic ban on Israel, Israelis, Jews, Judaism, Palestine, Palestinians, Islam, and/or Arabs, if an editor's Arab-Israeli conflict topic ban is determined to be insufficient to prevent disruption. At least one diff per area expanded into should be cited.
