Tropical Tidbits as a source
Is Tropical Tidbits a reliable source? The guy who runs it (Dr. Levi Cowan) does work at the JTWC if I recall correctly, and I've seen Typhoon Yagi's page updated once with Tropical Tidbits as the source, but I'm still wondering if it's really credible or not. SomeoneWiki04 (talk) 14:08, 29 September 2024 (UTC)
- I think it is fine, but depends on personal views maybe. High Admiral JMT (talk) 03:03, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
Etymology
Can someone provide the etymology like on previous storms? I am guessing that it's Thai though. Borgenland (talk) 15:59, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
- Krathon, Mangkhut, and Durian are all fruit names. High Admiral JMT (talk) 00:52, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
a historical event in the East Sea
In less than a month, there have been two storms with the highest level of JMA entering the East Sea. Is this an unprecedented historical event in the East Sea? Nguyễn Quốc Anh (1248) (talk) 06:50, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
- Possibly, yes. Plus, September 2024 hosts an above-average typhoon number. High Admiral JMT (talk) 00:52, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
- TY #Krathon (PH : #JulianPH) is now making landfall in the city of Kaoshiung in the southwestern Taiwan this Thursday afternoon local time – the first typhoon to do in 28 years. It is the only third typhoon to make landfall in the city since 1945, according to the archives from NOAA, after Thelma (1977) and Gloria (1996). Add A Fact: "Typhoon Krathon causes extreme rains in Taiwan"
I found a fact that might belong in this article. See the quote below
Mountainous areas in the island’s south have seen up to 169 centimeters (5.5 feet) of rain over the past five days.
The fact comes from the following source:
Here is a wikitext snippet to use as a reference:

1. Well-written
- The second paragraph of the lead is too detail-heavy– I would trim out a couple of sentences.
- ...and strongest typhoon to hit the province since Typhoon Chanthu in 2021. Should be "and the strongest typhoon"
- ...while PAGASA raised Signal No. 4 in Batanes and in Babuyan and Calayan Islands. The "and in" is redundant here.
- ...where it remained nearly stationary between two mid-level subtropical high before dissipating on the same day. I believe this should be "substropical highs".
- ...however, Krathon slowed down over the last six hours and was located within a col region between two deep-layer subtropical high... and ...which had since become cloud-filled, and the system was moving north-northwestward between two mid-level subtropical high. Same thing for both.
- ...including Ilocos Norte, Batanes, and Cagayan. due to the severe impact of the storm. Change the period after Cagayan to a comma.
2. Verifiable
The sources used are all government or news organizations. Xinhua is only considered marginally reliable per WP:XINHUA, but I think it is okay in the context of providing a precipitation amount of a different storm for the table.
Earwig's shows a potential violation, but I am inclined to believe they copied from Wikipedia rather than the other way around given they used the same sources, and it looks similar to the state of the article on October 1.
Spot check: 5, 12, 29, 35, 43, 58, 61, 72, 100, 114 all support the information and are not plagarized.
- Add an access date for citations 31 and 116.
- I would recommend adding archive links for sources that don't already have them to prevent link rot. For example, citations 40 and 89 are already dead links.
- The date formatting should be consistent throughout the citations.
- The United States government, through USAID, allocated $500,000 to aid those affected by Krathon in Batanes Can you note this is ₱28 million (according to the source)?
- In Donggang Township in Pingtung County, one of the blocks of Antai Tian-Sheng Memorial Hospital caught fire, killing nine people. The source doesn't list the name of the hospital or the town.
3. Broad
This is an appropriate amount of detail for a typhoon article.
4. Neutral
The article is neutral in its tone.
5. Stable
I have looked through the talk page and edit history to verify there are no ongoing edit wars or content disputes.
6. Illustrated
The images are all tagged with their copyright statuses. They are all relevant and have suitable captions.
