Talk:Mother's Day

Mothering Sunday and Cybele

Actually, contrary to the above statement, Mothering Sunday IS "mothers day" as we know it today. It was where the tradition originally started. Many christian people, not just priests and such, would return to their mother church on this day. Some of them would pick flowers in the church yard and go visit their mother. Hence, the first Mothers day GIFTS as well.

However, that is not my purpose here. There is a mistake on the page. The Greeks who worshipped Cybele were NOT a cult, it was a more Pagan-style religion. Only a Christian would call Pagans (and other religions) a "cult", or even a devil-worshipper. Please fix this.

Both Mother's day and Family day link to the same page in Hebrew.

Mother's Day in Viet Nam

I believe there is a slight misunderstanding here. In Viet Nam, Mother's Day is not celebrated as an official national holiday. Instead, we observe the Vu Lan Festival (a religious holiday in our country) or International Women's Day. See https://ven.congthuong.vn/do-they-celebrate-mothers-day-in-vietnam-47574.html and https://en.vietnamplus.vn/vu-lan-festival-where-vietnamese-people-show-respect-towards-parents-post268597.vnp TuanLongHoang (talk) 11:44, 28 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

1908, not 1907

In the sentence "The modern holiday was first celebrated in 1907, when Anna Jarvis held the first Mother's Day service of worship at Andrews Methodist Episcopal Church in Grafton, West Virginia." the year should be 1908 instead of 1907, as stated in the source given (looks like a typo).
