Hello, I'll take this review. Life's life, so comments may come in a week or two. I do like listening to the stuff I review, so mini music-review to come also after GA review done :). GoldRomean (talk) 00:48, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for reviewing. Perhaps listen to Ton Koopman's version. There's no version to include in the article, but one with score, but without naming performers, and a bit "stiff". --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:40, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the suggestion! I'm so sorry for the delay in the review. Comments to come in the coming days. GoldRomean (talk) 00:17, 20 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Gerda Arendt Alright, again sorry for the long time it took. I'm satisfied by your responses to the prose review and everything looks good, so passing this. :D GoldRomean (talk) 17:41, 30 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Prose review

Lead

  • I suggest changing He composed it in Leipzig for the first Sunday after the Epiphany and first performed it on 7 January 1725. to He composed it in Leipzig for the first Sunday after the Epiphany, and it was first performed it on 7 January 1725. to clarify that it was not actually performed by Bach (unless it was).
But it was, usually conducted by him from playing violin, sometimes keyboard. --GA
  • In the above sentence, mention the year it was composed? E.g. He composed it in YYYY in Leipzig for the first Sunday after the Epiphany, and it was first performed it on 7 January of the same year. (or something like that).
No, these cantatas were usually composed the week before the performance, because the previous Sunday, there was another one composed the week before the performance etc ... --GA
  • Actually, is for the first Sunday after the Epiphany needed? It's mentioned right after, and seems a little too detailed for the lead.
Yes, because the occasion is almost the key thing: because Bach composed for the liturgy with it's prescribed readings. You want to know if for Easter of St John's Day, or this specific Sunday. He would perform the music only on this occasion in later years. --GA
  • Italicize cantus firmus.
    yes --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:48, 21 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

History, hymn and words

  • Looks good, no comments.

Music

Structure and scoring
  • Aassuming Va is viola, so probably add that after a viola.)
    yes, good catch! --GA
  • The duration is given as 17 minutes. - Given by whom? I would just say The duration is 17 minutes.
Well, I tried by moving the sentence a papa below, because Mr. Dürr, who is explained for the keys, gave the duration also. We can't say "is 17" because that depends heavily on the conductor's mood ;)
  • Should the titles (e.g. Meinen Jesum laß ich nicht) be italicized, or nah?
Tricky question, because the rule is italic for larger pieces of music, no italics for smaller ones. Chorales, recitatives and arias are considered small, but to use a different format for the opening movements wouldn't look good, right?
  • I'd suggest unlinking the mvt. numbers. Actually, nevermind, it's fine.
thank you --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:57, 21 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
