Updated revenue numbers
Hi editors, for my next request, I propose updating the introduction with more current revenue and disbursement numbers:
| − | + | In 2024, ASCAP collected approximately US$1.84 billion in revenue, distributed approximately US$1.7 billion in royalties to rightsholders, and maintained a registry of approximately 20 million works. ASCAP had approximately 900,000 members as of 2022. |
The updated text looks like the following:
This provides the most recent revenue numbers and clarifies the timeline of membership a bit while making it less promotional. Please let me know what you think! @Closetside: would you have any interest in looking at this request as well? Stephanie BINK (talk) 17:47, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
Not done: The changes are not supported by neutral, independent, reliable sources. Please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. Needs more secondary. Valorrr (lets chat) 17:54, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Valorrr: The reliable sources list specifically lists Variety as a reliable source for entertainment trade topics, which this is. The Variety articles are also written by a staff reporter who is independent of the topic. Can you explain why Variety is not reliable? Reopening this request in the meantime so others can weigh in.
- Hi editors, I propose updating the outdated introduction with more recent information cited to Variety and replacing the ASCAP source used.

- @Valorrr: Thanks! On a related note, what do you think about using this source to update the membership numbers in the following sentence, changing the sentence from:
- ASCAP membership surpassed 900,000 and revenues exceeded $1.5 billion in 2022.
- To:
- The organization had approximately 1 million members as of 2024.[9]
- Please let me know! Stephanie BINK (talk) 20:51, 21 May 2025 (UTC)

- Oppose. Not exclusively known by its acronym and the acronym is not generally well-known outside the field. -- Necrothesp (talk) 06:56, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
- ASCAP is most commonly used in publications, but can be as a primary topic. Absolutiva 07:21, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
- No different from using RAF instead of Royal Air Force, for instance. But the full title is the best. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Necrothesp (talk • contribs) 14:32, 29 July 2025 (UTC)

- Support – for all intensive purposes, it is exclusively known by its acronym. A google search for "ASCAP" brings nearly 7 million results, vs only 300k for the whole title... I don't think most people could spell out the acronym "NATO" so I'm not sure how "not generally well-known outside the field" is relevant. Aza24 (talk) 18:58, 4 August 2025 (UTC)
- Comment the relevant guideline is WP:NCA. Is the topic primarily known by its acroynm, or the expansion of the acronym? i.e., which do most users know and search for, and which do users come to the article to learn is associated with the topic?
