Talk:Abraham

Change "Palestinian origin hypothesis" to "Canaanite origin hypothesis"?

The area was called Canaan and not Palestine during the possible period of Abraham's life, so maybe we should change it to that? Then again, Palestinian would be the one used by historians today. Does anyone have any thoughts? Blagai (talk) 14:43, 12 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good to me, will make the change. Brent Silby (talk) 16:13, 12 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I posted it and didn't change myself since I thought it better to wait for consensus, but I won't revert your edit. If anyone contests it feel free to say why in this thread. Blagai (talk) 20:39, 12 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It seems the change was reverted without explanation.
The suggestion makes sense chronologically. The Philistines wouldn't arrive for ~700 years, and the region wouldn't be called Palaestina for ~2000 years after the assumed life of Abraham
The mention of specific dates (ex 1289 BCE) regarding a "Palestinian tribe" in the current version correlate closely with the arrival of Philistines to the Southern Levant (~1275 BCE) and could cause confusion that those things are related Jake0Miller (talk) 18:02, 14 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Title change to "Abraham in Christianity"

I feel the entire article overall gives more weight to interpretation of Abraham in a Judeo-Christian light, which gives a wrong impression on Islamic interpretation. There's some notable differences compared to the Islamic version, for example Lot is barely mentioned in the wikipedia page for Islam's interpretation while he seems to be a central figure in the Christian narration. It is probably better off to name this page as "Abraham in Christianity" and make a different page for Abraham as the page heavily relies on Biblical sources anyway. This article covers Abraham in Christianity, Judaism, Druze, Baha'i, Islam, etc.
The Islam section links to a sub-page on Abraham in Islam.
This is a general page on Abraham, and other sub-pages on specific interpretations of Abraham already exist. I do not think it makes sense to convert this general page into a sub-page.
It would make sense instead to expand this page to be more comprehensive and/or make additions to existing (or create new) sub-pages about specific interpretations of Abraham. Jake0Miller (talk) 18:05, 14 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Ibrahim

He is called Abraham in every religion that's mentioned except islam. Is Ibrahim not simply the Arabic version of Abraham? Why not call him Abraham all through? 2607:FEA8:FF01:4FA6:8C87:CEAF:6435:BDFA (talk) 22:04, 25 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Inclusion of Abraham Lincoln hatnote

"This article is about the biblical figure. For the 16th president of the United States, see Abraham Lincoln. For the name, see Abraham (name). For other uses, see Abraham (disambiguation)."

Should Abraham Lincoln really be part of the hatnote? GrandDuchyConti 💜(talk) 04:12, 26 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Deeply silly, 86'd it. Remsense 🌈  04:22, 26 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
